Blog Tour & Review: Project Lexi by Lisa Survillas

Title: Project Lexi
Series: The Lexi Series #1
Author: Lisa Survillas
Genre: NA Romance
Release Date: June 19, 2014

Lexi Crandall’s world is turned upside down her junior year of high school. Her confession tears her family apart and leaves them broken. Looking for an escape after graduation, she heads out of town for college. Wracked with guilt and shame, she keeps to herself, befriending only her roommate, Paige.

Derek Fressen experiences one tragedy after another. After learning to cope with being raised by a single mom, he and his sister, Tiffany, become closer than ever. When Tiffany escapes for college, Derek takes the opportunity to leave his past behind as well.

San Francisco State University is where Lexi and Derek find themselves junior year, thrown into the most uncomfortable situation possible, a group project that requires each to open up about their past. Their grade depends upon the ability to prove to the professor through a class presentation that they truly learned about one another.

Painful memories and terrifying tests of courage propel Lexi to learn how to take baby steps in the healing process, and give hope of one day feeling normal. Although he feels he’s pretty well healed from the horrible events of his past, Derek is lonely and longing for a life of more.

Will Lexi and Derek be able to share enough of their lives with each other to pass the class? How much will Lexi let Derek help her in the process? Are their tragic pasts too much to overcome, or will love be in their future?

**NOTE: This book is intended for readers 18+ due to explicit sexual situations and alcohol consumption.**

"Derek, I . . . um, well . . . " Great, let's make thins worse by speaking like an idiot too. I take a deep breath before starting over. "I, um . . . I don't know how to do this, um, this friend thing. Paige is my only friend. It's that way for a reason. You don't want to be a part of my crazy. That is the only thing that is special about me. My special kind of crazy."

"Please let me make that decision for myself. None of us are damage-free. We all carry baggage. I'm not asking to empty yours, just to help you carry it when you need the help. No questions asked. All I need is friendship. You intrigue me, but if friendship is what we start with, then that is where we start. If that is where it ends, then we'll be friends."

I nod my head. I don't know what else to say. Friends? Can I do another friend? When the truth came out all those years ago, my friends left. They couldn't take it. People stared, whispered, and blamed. It was a lot for everyone. My biggest fear with this project is that those moments will happen again. I can't run this time, there is too much invested here already. I'll have a year and a half to endure it all over again. I won't be losing friends though. Paige knows and won't leave when everyone finds out. But if I let Derek in, will he stay or leave? Will I be able to handle having him look at me that way once he knows?

Project Lexi by Lisa Survillas is a story like none other that I have read before and I promise that it will break your heart into a million pieces and put it back together again at the same time.  A story filled with the secrets of a past that still haunt and cultivate the actions of the present but hopefully not the future, the reader has no choice but to hold out hope that Lexi and Derek can overcome everything that they have experienced in their childhoods so that they can come together as a whole, and possibly on their path to finally healing.  This book was a 4.5 star read for me and I won't lie that as soon as I turned the last page I immediate went onto Amazon to purchase book two because I just HAD TO KNOW what was in store for these two!

Lexi is in her junior year of college, a college she chose because it is far from her childhood home.  A home that is filled with secrets that once set free changed her life forever, turning her into a person who was fearful of life itself but especially fearful of people; specifically males.  When she is paired with Derek on a group project in a communications class that focuses solely on them getting to know each other and showing the class that they went beyond the superficial questions, she panics not wanting anyone to know what happened to her.  With her roommate and best friend Paige by her side, she sees that maybe by talking about the tragedies she faced, she will be able to start to heal and actually live like a normal 21 year old.

Derek is a transfer student who needed to get away for the last two years of college, away from a past filled with sadness.  Although he fights the guilt and lonliness everyday of what took place, he is looking forward to trying to forge a new path.  Having one class that did not transfer from community college, Derek is forced to take communications which leads him to Lexi; a girl he is drawn to but doesn't understand why.

Together Derek and Lexi begin to fight the demons that haunt them on a daily basis.  Lexi is struggling to survive all that she has been through and Derek is struggling to let someone get close to his heart and overcome the guilt of his past.  Together they aren't as broken as they are apart.  Will their relationship turn romantic?  Can each of them give up the control that they need to keep the demons at bay to allow their relationship to last?  You will have to read to find out.

The door flies open, slamming against the inside wall, and momentarily startling me. “What now!” At first, I’m caught off guard by her irate greeting, but as she stands frozen in the doorway, her eyes grow wide in surprise, and a blush shadows her ivory face. Damn. She’s beautiful. I have to bite my lip to stifle a grin. “I’m sorry. I thought you were somebody else.” Her tongue darts out and licks nervously at her lips. An intense desire to capture it between my teeth and slide it between my own lips spikes through me. Leaning casually against her doorframe, I cross my arms over my chest. “I heard something crash. Is everything okay?” Her shoulders drop slightly, and her hard eyes soften, meeting mine. “Yeah, everything’s fine. A friend made me angry, and I threw a vase at the wall.” This time I can’t hide my amusement. “You either have a very short fuse or an asshole for a friend.” The tension slips further from her shoulders, and she smiles at my remark. “It’s the latter.” Shit, so maybe model dude is her boyfriend. What am I doing here? I don’t have time in my life for shit like this, but I also can’t seem to make my feet walk away. “Well, I can promise I’m not an asshole, and I’m not doing anything tonight. Do you want to grab a drink?” She looks down at her watch and bites her bottom lip in contemplation, her hesitancy making me uneasy. “Come on, Green Eyes, it’s only nine o’clock.” Pathetic, I’m begging a girl I should be running from to have a drink with me. Those eyes instantly meet mine and are filled with a sudden shine that wasn’t there a minute ago. “Do you want to come in and watch American Ninja Warrior with me?” The request comes so quickly I almost miss it. In fact, the only part I understood was that she wants me to come inside her place. Hell yeah, I’m coming inside. But first, I need to know what we’re doing because at this moment, what my dick hears is ‘coming inside’ and it has its own idea as to what that means. Suddenly she’s laughing, and it’s awesome. Her entire face brightens, and her eyes twinkle like I’ve never seen. Her happiness is settling in my chest and making me grin at her like a damn schoolboy. “You have no idea what I’m talking about do you?” Her laughter subsides and leaves her with a smile that is . . . stunning. “No clue. Only that you asked me in, and yet, I’m still standing in your doorway.”

Release Day Blitz: Catch and Release by Ella Fox

Love endures all things.

Darby McKenzie’s heart started beating funny the day that she met Trace Chamberlain. She was four, he was five, and that meeting altered the course of both their lives forever.

Trace was born into a nightmare. Before meeting Darby and her family, the only love he ever knew was that of his twin brother. The two of them endured years of abuse that left scars. The permanent kind.

For Trace, meeting Darby was like catching a rainbow. She exploded into his life in a pop of Technicolor that awakened his senses. She wasn’t just his best friend—she was his life. His touchstone, his safety, his heart—she was everything.

Darby had been through it all with Trace and her love for him never wavered for a second. But no amount of love could make Trace believe that he was worthy of her. Knowing that she deserved better, Trace pushed her away, when what he really wanted was to pull her closer. Emotionally destroyed and bitter from the back and forth, Darby finally let go and decided to move on.

Sometimes hitting rock bottom is the only way to understand that you need to change. Realizing that losing Darby means losing everything, Trace sets out to fight for the love of his life.

Is it too late for Darby and Trace to have a happily ever after?

“We can talk every day on the phone or by text and Skype, right?” he asked anxiously.
I knew if I said yes, he’d call every day.  Distance would be useless if I didn’t put my foot down.
“Once a week,” I told him.  “Pick a day and we’ll talk then. This is our time to redefine our relationship.”
“I don’t want anything to change,” he complained.  “I don’t want to see less of you or spend six fucking days a week not hearing your voice. Even thinking about doing it makes me feel sick.”

I understood how he felt because I was experiencing all the same anxiety, but I stood my ground.
“This is the way it needs to be for a while,” I answered.  “You can like it or lump it, but I’m not backing down. Call me next Friday.”
When I went to leave, I let him hug me because friends hugged.  I counted off five seconds and then pulled away.  He tried to hold tighter, but I wiggled away.  The benefits of being strong meant that he couldn’t keep me where I didn’t want to be.
“We can’t hug?” he asked in a panicked tone.
“We can,” I said calmly.  “When I hug Tristan, it’s probably a two or three second process.  I gave you five.  Friends don’t hug for minutes at a time unless there’s a crisis.”
“This is a crisis! You’re fucking leaving me.”
I knew then that drawing it out any more was only going to make things worse.  There were times when cutting something short was the way to go, and that moment was one of them.
“This isn’t a crisis,” I refuted calmly.  “This is a reality.  I’ll talk to you next week.  Take care of yourself.”
I kept my chin up as I walked away, and I ignored him when he called out my name
three separate times.
