Unforgiven by Rebecca Shea is the final book in the Unbreakable Series and what a conclusion it was. I wasn't sure what to expect with Lindsay and Matt's story and I was anything but disappointed. This book was a 4 star read for me and I encourage everyone to read this remarkable series that will tug at your heart strings while reading it in its entirety. This series is a must read for all!!
Lindsay and Matt have been "secretly" dating for over a year when the book opens up, sharing a life filled with love and contentment. When they finally decide to confirm the relationship that all of their friends and family confessed to knowing about all along, the reader cheers for them, Lindsay, like her brother Landon, deserves happiness after the difficult childhood she endured due to the choices of her mother. Little do Lindsay and Matt know that just when they confess their love for each other, their entire relationship will fall apart.
After taking what appears to be the opportunity of a lifetime in Phoenix, Lindsay follows her dream to be a journalist in a top rated city and leave her heart behind in Willmington with Matt. Quickly accepting a job that is too good to pass up without thought to how it would affect her relationship, Lindsay leaves Matt brokenhearted and devastated. Little does she know that walking away from her love for Matt would be the very beginning of a downward spiral that will only end with her in a hospital bed scared for the future.
Allowing herself to become numb to the pain she was feeling being so far from home and leaving Matt behind, Lindsay turns to prescription pills and her old friend anorexia to get her through the loneliness she feels on a daily basis in Phoenix. When her friend Jess comes to visit, Lindsay hits an all-time low, buying more pills from a friend of her neighbor Noah which leads her to being admitted to the hospital after falling and hitting her head. Landon and Matt fly to Phoenix to be with Lindsay and help her through this difficult time, but while scouring her apartment for hidden pills. Matt discovers something that breaks his heart even more and leaves without seeing her or an explanation to his best friend Landon.
Lindsay begins to work on herself, by checking into rehab and working to become healthy and learn to deal with the emotions that she often buries deep, refusing to talk about it. She makes amends with the people that she feels she has wronged by her behavior, starting with Landon and her sister-in-law Reagan and then her best friend Jess. She attempts to make amends with Matt, but seeing another woman in his homes, makes it difficult for her, knowing that she made the biggest mistake in letting Matt go.
It is only at Landon and Reagan's wedding the Lindsay and Matt finally speak for this first time since she has returned from rehab, a conversation that ends in tears. Good tears or bad tears? You will have to read to find out but I do promise that the end of this book is anything but disappointing!
Unforgiven was the third book in the Unbreakable Series and I have to say I was really looking forward to Matt's story but sadly felt like we got more Lindsay than Matt. This was my least favorite
book in the series. I really thought we would get more of a big bang with it being the last book in the series and I felt it was lacking for me in the steam department. SO sadly I am rating this a 3.5. I absolutely loved Unbreakable and Undone so I guess I might have put my expectations to high for this one. There were some great parts in this book and of course Rebecca Shea is a brilliant writer so I couldn't completely dismiss this book. I want to thank Rebecca for including all the characters from her past book in this story because it gives you a little more closure with them that you didn't get in there books.
Matt and Lindsay have been secretly dating for over a year, but there secret is out and they couldn't be happier. Well that is until Lindsay makes a decision that will change and destroy both of their lives. Matt will not stop her from chasing her dream but he never thought she would choose her career over him. Lindsay has a struggle with leaving and when she is far away from everyone she will shut them out and become a person she never thought she would become.
Matt is completely destroyed and broken by Lindsay's sudden departure from his life, he is regretting telling her he can't do long distance relationship, but when he calls her one night he will get an eye opener he never expected.
"I'm sorry, Matt," she says again, and all I can do is nod my head. "I never wanted to hurt you--ever." - LINDSAY
"You did, Lindsay. You fucking destroyed me," I admit like a pussy. "From the day I met you, I was madly in love with you. I never in a million years thought you'd leave me---let alone let another man touch you."-- MATT
When tragedy strikes and Lindsay and Matt are brought back together can the sins be forgiven... or will it be too much to forgive.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Rebecca Shea and was so excited to read Matt and Lindsay’s story. At the end, I have mixed emotions about this book. For me, it’s my least favorite from the series but there are parts that I loved. I felt like it read more like it was Lindsay’s story and Matt’s POV is an afterthought. I did love how all the previous main characters made an appearance and we felt like we got a more from them but I just felt this was lacking that little something extra the other books had. This review is hard to write because I love Ms Shea but thought this one was just OK. I didn’t hate it, but didn’t love it… This installment can be read as a standalone and is a complete story told in dual POV.
Lindsay seems to have it all. She and Matt finally decide to let everyone in on their big secret of their relationship which everyone knew wasn’t much of a secret to begin with. They seem to be content in their relationship. Even though their jobs have them working opposite shifts, they make it work. When Lindsay drops the bomb that she is moving to Phoenix to pursue her dream job in broadcasting their relationship is pulled apart and they go their separate ways. Matt is hurt and devastated by her decision but does not fight her on moving.
When moving to Phoenix should be the opportunity of a life time quickly turns out to be experience from hell. Having the dream job turns her life into a downward spiral that quickly turns out of control. From anorexia to prescription drug and alcohol abuse Lindsay feels like she has no control and is living an empty shell of a life. She’s regrets leaving North Carolina and her friends and family but being stuck in a one year contract, she must tough it out. When Jess comes for a visit she discovers just how bad things are. Fortunately for her, she has a strong support system in Landon but Lindsay must make the decision to get help and find happiness in herself first. But will she decide to stay in Phoenix and focus on her career or move back back home and start over?
Part of the issue I have in this novel is I felt it was Lindsay’s story and I think I would have preferred it to be told in a singular POV. I don’t know if Matt’s POV is needed? I don’t know if I learned anything about him in his chapters. I felt there were parts that were rushed through and at times I did find myself skimming through the story. I did commend Ms Shea for tackling such huge issues that plague our society today. Overall I would rate it 3.5 stars. I liked the story and I would recommend it to readers.
