Milo looks like every twink you’ve ever met, but behind the cheeky smile is a man who craves control. Older men are his weakness, but none ever take him seriously. Until Edward.
Edward Chivington is forty, polished, and powerful. The deputy prime minister of the UK. A man forced into the closet by his father, who doesn’t know how to break the door down after so long. Milo is everything he wants, everything he never thought he could have.
Their first encounter is in The Back Room, a notorious labyrinth where anything goes in the dark. One night becomes many, and Edward starts to reveal pieces of himself, as he falls deeper for the young man. Then Milo realises the truth. The man he’s also falling for is on the brink of becoming prime minister.
But Edward isn’t the only one with ambition. His rival will stop at nothing to expose him. Milo’s flat mates will disown him for sleeping with the enemy, and the press is circling, hungry for scandal. A romantic trip to Norway over the holidays, proves this could be their moment for happily ever after, but when their story breaks, Edward must make the ultimate choice.
His dream job, or his dream man? Because the world isn’t ready for him to have both, or is it?

“Milo!” shouted Liam from behind the counter.
“Sit down. I’ll be over in a minute.”
Liam was smiling, and it was the first time Milo had seen him do that since before Christmas. The place wasn’t busy, but it was the lull between breakfast and lunch, so that would change soon. It had a cosy yet modern feel, which had all been Sylvie’s doing. The whole place was a reminder of the wonderful woman she’d been. Whenever Milo had visited, she’d always treated him as if he were one of her own.
“Here you go,” said Liam, putting coffee and a breakfast roll in front of him. “I assume you didn’t have breakfast?”
“That’s very presumptuous of you.”
“When Milo is stressed, he doesn’t eat. Probably why you’re a skinny bitch. You’re always stressed.”
“Piss off. I’m not skinny.”
“Compared to me, you are,” said Liam, flexing his biceps and squeezing his muscular chest.
“Good morning, Liam,” said a very country-looking guy, with a beard and plaid shirt. “Oh . . . hello . . . good morning . . . hello . . . um . . . hi, Austin.” Milo was struggling to keep a straight face. He could see why Liam was all flustered. Austin was hot. He had to be in his forties, although the beard might be making him look older. He had warm brown eyes, and he clearly had a soft spot for Liam with how he was smiling at him.
“Do you have Maisie’s cupcakes?”
“Of course. Let me get them for you. I’ll just be a minute. Will you be okay, Milo?”
“I’ll be fine. I’ll keep Austin company for you.” Liam glared at Milo, which made Austin chuckle. He scooted off quickly, probably worried Milo was going to swoop in and steal his man.
“How do you know Liam?” asked Austin.
“We’ve lived together for ten years.” Austin frowned at that comment, as if he were trying to work something out. “We met at uni. Shared student digs there, and then flat-shared in London.”
“Ah.” The relaxing of Austin’s shoulders was obvious. He clearly saw Milo as a threat, which was hilarious. Liam was like a brother to him, but Milo didn’t need to say that. Before he could say anything else, though, Liam appeared holding a box, which no doubt contained the cupcakes.
“Here you go. I hope she likes them.”
“Did you make them?” Liam nodded.
“Then they’ll be perfect,” Austin beamed. Liam visibly blushed; Milo was loving this interaction. “I’ll see you soon, Liam. Nice to meet you, Milo.” Milo couldn’t help but snort. It was clear Austin would like to mark his territory around Liam and growl at Milo if he could. Austin smiled again, just for Liam, before he left.
