“Thanks! See nothing to worry about Mia.” I took her hand to make sure she gets out of her seat. She grabbed the cup that was next to her on the desk with her free hand as I said. “Gentleman, you can just tell Mr. Cohen that Mia’s roommate’s granny busted a hip line dancing or bungee jumping or something.”

I watched as Mia’s cheeks flushed with a dark pink.

“You knew?”

“Of course, I knew.” I said with a prideful grin.

I escorted her through the underground parking lot and opened the passenger door of my Toyota Landcruiser.

“This, is your car?” she asked incredulous.

“You were expecting something else?” After unlocking the vehicle, I held the passenger door open for her.

“Yes. A big pretentious, bright yellow hummer perhaps?”

“Are you disappointed?”

“No. Only surprised.” Her brow knitted with concern. “I didn’t think we were going off site. If Trent checks on me…”

“Here we go again with this.” I have to work to keep the snark out of my voice. “What makes you think he holds any weight with me?”

“I don’t know what weight he holds with you, but he’s still my boss.”

“I’m your boss.”

“You hate me.”

“I don’t hate you.”

“You’ve said it, you’d rather have my best friend as an assistant.” She reminded me of the rude words I spoke before.

I’m disgusted with my actions towards her.

“That’s not exactly accurate.” I held open the passenger door for her.

“Trent hired me.” Her voice quaked. “He can fire me.”

“Mia…”

“Honestly, Trak the only reason I even still have a job is because of Trent. If you recall, you sent me packing over perfume.”

“MIA!”

“WHAT?!”

“Would you just get in the vehicle?” Making my eyes gentle, I added. “Please.”

Surprise flashed over her face before she huffed at me. But she sat her cute ass on the passenger seat anyway.

As we took off through Manhattan, and I finally had her alone next to me, I felt myself loosen up.

Furious, she stared out the window. “What was I thinking, getting into this car with you?”

“God, you’re gorgeous when you’re angry.”

I meant it, but of course the comment only infuriated her more, inciting vehement wrath.

“What the… WHAT?!” she shouted. “Pull over and let me out of this car right now Trak!”

Her eyes we’re positively on fire. I could do this all day. I maneuvered the vehicle to the side of the road.

“But I haven’t shown you the something yet.”

“I can only imagine what that something is.” She quips.

“Mia, I don’t want to be enemies.”

“You drew those lines, Trak. From the moment we met, first when you stole my taxi, then when you treated me so appallingly at my interview. At the office. On sites. Shall I go on?”

“I did all of that. Could you… would you… give me a second chance?”

“What makes you think you deserve one. You’re hardly even a friend.”

“Mia…”

“You can’t even say it!” She was so hurt. All because of my behavior. I wished I could make her understand.

“I’m sorry. I was completely wrong to have ever treated you that way. I have been a first-rate ass. Please forgive me.”

I couldn’t take it anymore. Leaning towards her, I gently cradled the back of her head in my hand. Her chestnut hair was like silk against my palm and fingers.

Risking her right hook—or the probability of her clawing her nails across my face—I brought her soft, pink lips closer.

Her gaze lifted to mine, her dark, thick lashes framing her ocean blue eyes. The storm in them still raging.

“Please.” My voice was all but a whisper as I pressed my lips against hers.

Her mouth tasted of the chai tea she had been sipping, cinnamon spice and clove. My eyes fell closed as I leaned into her.

Mia stiffened, but only for a moment, before she melted into the embrace.

Her sweet lips were soft and warm. The kiss was tentative at first like we

were testing each other.

“Can you do chin-ups?”

He laughed derisively. “Yeah, I think I can handle chin-ups.”

I adjusted the lights, and he got into position. I lifted the camera and waited for him to start. He just stood there, arms loosely gripping the bar above his head, watching me.

Finally, I lowered the camera. “Problem?”

He smiled slowly, wickedly. “Aren’t you going to oil me up?”

Oh, God.

My jaw dropped a little, and I struggled to maintain my composure. “Do you really want to be greasy the rest of the day?”

He lifted a shoulder in a lazy shrug. “You can clean me up afterward. I have some baby wipes somewhere.”

I set the camera down carefully, needing to buy myself a few seconds to get my racing heart under control. Squeezing a bit of the oil into my hands, I started at his shoulders, smoothing the cool liquid over the breadth of his back, down his ribs to his tapered waist, and back up again. His skin was so warm, his muscles firm beneath my hands. I repeated the path about three times to make sure I didn’t miss any spots.

The fourth pass was just for me. When I rubbed his lower back, making sure to get all the way to the edge of his jeans, he shifted beneath my fingers, and his ass clenched beneath his denim.

Interesting. Maybe he wasn’t as indifferent as he acted.

Moving around to his front, I repeated a similar process, from shoulders to hips, my hands gliding over his pecs and between the individual grooves of his abs. His nipples hardened, and was it just me, or did his breathing seem a bit faster than when I started?

My hands made one last journey across his chest, and I lingered over his heart. Sure enough, it was pounding into my palm, although his face remained impassive as he watched me. I couldn’t hold his dark gaze, couldn’t risk him seeing how much touching him like this affected me, how I was having to squeeze my thighs together to resist humping his leg like a bitch in heat.

There was no doubt in my mind this was a test. It was whether it was personal or professional that I couldn’t puzzle out.

Licking my desert-dry lips, I rubbed the oil over his arms, my palms following the contours of his sizeable biceps and his strong forearms. His fingers clenched and flexed as I finished up, but that was the only motion he made.

I wiped my hands off on a towel and picked up the camera again, hoping he didn’t notice the slight tremor in the action.

“Ready?” I cursed the husky tone in my voice.

His eyes drifted down my tightly strung body before he met my gaze again. “Getting there, anyway.” With a wink, he began a slow series of chin-ups made more impressive by the obvious control he had over the speed.

Blinking out of my stupor, I reminded myself to focus.

Shadows, shapes, light, composition, angle. I concentrated on the task at hand, moving around him slowly to capture him from all sides. After three minutes, he paused to catch his breath between sets. “Having trouble? You’ve barely taken any shots.”

I snapped a picture of his heaving chest. “On the contrary, I know what I’m doing and don’t take a lot of wasted ones.”

He raised a dark brow. “Those are big words. Hope you can back them up with results.”

I allowed the camera to follow a drop of sweat that was slowly traversing down his abs, past his navel, down that sexy trail of hair leading to his jeans. My eyes lingered there momentarily. I wasn’t positive, but I’d swear there was more of a bulge there now than when I started.

“Yeah, I think I’m getting pretty good results.”

Crouching low on the ground to get a shot or two up his torso, I could feel the heat coming off of him, smell the sweat mixing with his cologne. I zoomed in, getting the exact image I’d hoped for.

Satisfied, I stood up, but I must have moved too quickly because the room spun for a moment, and I lost my balance, reaching out to catch myself. My hand couldn’t find purchase on the oil-slick skin where it landed, and it slipped down his body, throwing me more off balance.

I’m not entirely sure how it happened, but I ended up with my face mashed against his chest with my lips inches from his nipple, my arm flush against his torso, and my hand pressed over his groin.

His arousal pulsed beneath my palm, thick and hard and hot.

Oh, shit.

I was so fired.

I am completely blown away by this book. Sweet, romantic, haunting, emotional, and so much that I can't put into words. This was a great story and well-written with a great cast of characters. But I will warn you now that it is emotional and there were times when it was a touch hard and heart wrenching. 5 stars and a must read. One-Click today!
