Release Blitz: Possesed by Murder by JP Bird

Possessed by Murder by JP Bird is now live!

A cold case, hot coffee, and an impromptu séance brew the smalltown amateur sleuth’s second murder case…

When her best friend convinces Amelia Wethers to participate in a séance, the newly minted psychic, barista and artist is forced to add possessed to her repertoire. Now, instead of seeing a ghost pleading with her to find her murdered body, Ami is sharing her body with the very hungry ghost of Henrietta Bathers, a Hillside resident who mysteriously disappeared over eighty years ago.

While Henrietta seems determined to eat her way through town and embrace all the human pleasures and discoveries she missed, Ami and her friends, and family, including her new detective boyfriend, investigate Henrietta’s life and last steps. They hope that by finding justice for Henrietta and reuniting her earthbound spirit with her family, the possession will end.

Adding to the chaos, her boyfriend’s parents unexpectedly arrive in town, making acting “normal” an even a bigger reach for free spirited Ami. And that’s before another ghost—this one vengeful—appears, threatening the living and dead.

Add to your TBR List!
His phone rang and he glanced at the screen, not recognizing the number. “Chambers.”

“Detective Sean Chambers?”

“Yes. Who’s this?”

“It’s Jo. Jo Lindler, the bartender at The Crystal Palace.” Her voice was all but a whisper. “We met last night.”

“I remember.”

“You gave me your card and told me to call you if I remembered anything.”

“Have you?”

“Not until I got to work tonight. It was more what was missing.”

“Can you talk now?”

“I’m on my break, but I don’t feel comfortable discussing this here.”

“What time does your shift end?”

“We close at two during the week, so I’m outta here by three.”

“Where would be good for you?”

“There’s an all-night diner at the truck stop out toward the Davidson/Wilson County line. Do you know where I’m talking about?”

“Yes, I’ll meet you there at three-thirty.”

“See you then.”

The phone went dead.

Just before three-thirty in the morning, Chambers pulled into the diner off Highway 40 in his personal vehicle. As he walked inside, he tried his damnedest to remember what the bartender looked like as a vision drifted into his mind—petite, pink spiky hair, and maybe a hundred pounds soaking wet. He remembered towering over her by at least a foot. At his height, that wasn’t uncommon.

He glanced around the small diner accented in yellow and bright blue. Not seeing pink hair, he found an open booth at the back of the room where he could sit with his back against the wall and have a full view of the door in front of him. He’d just settled into his seat when the waitress walked up to the table. “Coffee?” she asked as she laid a menu and a set of flatware down.

“Please.” He glanced at the flatware. “I’m expecting someone.”

She placed another menu and a set of utensils across from him before turning to retrieve a mug and a pot of coffee. “Freshly brewed,” she said as she poured the hot liquid.

He was taking his first sip when a hooded person with pink hair sticking out of the edge approached him. She had on tight leather pants, and he wondered if she had on more than a bra under the hoodie. He recognized her immediately and sat up straighter. The woman glanced over her shoulder, then slid into the seat across from him.

“You made it,” she said.

“I always follow up on a potential lead.”

“I know this was a long drive for you, so thanks for meeting me here.”

“Coffee?” The female voice came from beside her.

Jo glanced at the woman. “Please, cream and sugar.”

The waitress retreated and Jo looked back at Sean. He leaned forward with his arms resting on the table. “You got information for me?”

She nodded, but before she could answer, the waitress set her coffee mug in front of her and filled it up.

“Are you eating or just drinking?”

Sean handed the waitress his menu. “French toast, side of bacon.”

Jo looked up to see Sean staring at her expectantly. “Same,” she said as she handed the menu to the woman taking their order.

As the waitress left, Sean sipped his coffee, waiting for Jo to start talking. She took another glance over her shoulder and leaned toward him.

With her voice low, Sean leaned back in and focused on the woman in front of him. “Last night was the first time there hadn’t been a white van parked in the last spot behind the club for the last week.”

“Beside the loading dock door?”

She shook her head. “There are a few patron spots—overflow—around back. You can’t see them from the road.” She took a napkin from the holder and pulled a pen from behind her ear. After drawing a rough sketch of the building and the parking lot, she showed him exactly where the van had been. “Seems kind of odd that it had been there for a week. Jasmine goes missing, and the van doesn’t show up.” She shrugged.

“What can you tell me about the van?”

“White, utility type, no windows, Virginia license plate.” She furrowed her brow and closed her eyes as if trying to see the tag in her mind’s eye. “There’s an H in the third position. I don’t know why that stands out to me, but it does.”

Sean scribbled notes on the small pad he pulled from his jacket pocket. “Anything else?”

“Not off the top of my head.”

He slipped the drawing into his notepad and put it back into his inside jacket pocket.

“Order up,” a voice said from not too far away.

Sean sat back while their plates were placed before them. Once they were alone, he said, “Do you know if there are any cameras that will show the area?”

“I’m not sure, but I can find out.”

“Did you see anyone in the van?”

She chuckled. “I’m sure they’re male, but actual faces, no.”

Sean took in every aspect of Jo, her face, her actions. He knew what he needed, and she could either help him or hurt him. He was counting on the former. Stuffing a bite of French toast into his mouth and taking a sip of his coffee, he decided it was now or never. “Um, Jo, would you consider being my eyes and ears in the club?”

Jo bit off a piece of bacon and stared at Sean. “Like an informant?” she asked as she chewed her food.

“Yeah.”

Jo fidgeted in her seat. “I don’t know. If anyone found out…”

“I’ll talk to the sheriff to see if there’s any money in the coffers to pay you.”

She cut her French toast. Taking a bite, she stared out the window. “What would I have to do?”

“Meet with me, tell me anything you see or hear that could link to Jasmine’s disappearance, or anyone else, for that matter. You know as well as I do that the strippers and prostitutes talk. Maybe there’s a connection between Jasmine and some of the other girls that have vanished.”

She turned back to face him. “Yeah, I can do that.”

Book Blitz, Excerpt, and Giveaway: That Boy by Briar Black

That Boy
Briar Black
(The Cheshire Set, #3)
Publication date: November 6th 2025
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Holiday, Romance, Suspense

Building an impossible tea farm in the Cheshire countryside was Sofia’s second chance. A way to prove herself. A fresh start. She knew it would be graft. She anticipated a degree of isolation. But with Christmas imminent and the farm failing, her thoughts have grown darker. She’s searching for something — an ineffable force to make this year the magical wonderland she always craves and never finds.

Yet with the farm failing there’s no time to fix her ailing social life. Sofia resigns herself to another lonely holiday.

Enter Matt.

Delaware Grange’s twenty-one-year-old assistant gamekeeper. Nice enough, a bit dopey.

As she hunkers down for winter, Sofia thinks she’s prepared for everything. Nothing could prepare her for Matt. For the abrupt awareness of him. For the way he’s far more capable than he seems. Thoughtful. Considerate. Quietly intelligent.

Way sexier than he appears.

Suddenly impossible to ignore.

But Matt isn’t what he seems. A darkness runs beneath Delaware Grange — insidious, creeping, buried deep.

Sofia was little more than a challenge, a box for Matt to check, an assignment to complete. Until he fell.

Hard.

Now all he sees is her. All he wants is her. And all he knows is she has no idea who he truly is. While Sofia fights her feelings in the face of forbidden fruit, and Matt wrestles with the reality of his true purpose on the estate, the pair fall into an intoxicating, passionate, volatile romance.

As winter deepens and Christmas closes in, two lonely souls struggle to find peace in each other, and trust becomes the most dangerous choice on the estate.

Falling for Matt threatens everything Sofia has worked so hard to build. Falling for Sofia might just be the making of Matt.

That Boy is a high-heat, secret-identity romance where desire, deception, and devotion collide in a snowy small-town Christmas.

While not required, it is highly suggested to read Nightshade before That Boy.

Author’s Note: Each novel in The Cheshire Set can be read as a standalone, but the following order avoids spoiling the reading experience of earlier books.

Recommended Reading Order for The Cheshire Set:

  1. Bane
  2. Nightshade
  3. That Boy

Eve Was Framed, a prequel novella to Bane, isn’t strictly part of The Cheshire Set but is available for free download on the author’s website.

‘Twas The Gloam Before Christmas…

A quiet, introspective moment between Matt and Sofia after a near-disaster. As they talk about “The Gloaming”—that melancholy space between Halloween and Christmas—their chemistry deepens and the novel’s central themes of loneliness, yearning, and rediscovery of light emerge.

“What’s the Gloaming?”

“Oh. Right.” I shifted, trying to find a way to lean that didn’t hurt my shoulder. It was useless. Until someone could pop it back in, I was doomed to dull agony. “It’s that feeling that threatens to drown you…” I paused, swallowing hard and staring out the window.

The world nearly drowned me tonight.

“This time every year.” I finally managed. “You know?”

Keep talking. Stay conscious. Don’t toss your cookies into his lap.

“That…overwhelming urge to…cover everything in cheer. But…” I took a little more water. “…the more you try, the less cheerful you feel. So you just keep…adding more.”

He chuckled.

“Hoping the cheer finds you before you’re…” Another tiny sip of water. “…crushed by baubles and fake fir garlands.”

He stared at me.

Great. Now he thinks I’m a total weirdo.

“I get it.” A slow smile spread across his face. “You’re staring at all the decorations. Watching the snow fall. And somewhere inside you’re sure you love Christmas. But you never quite seem to feel it.”

“Yes!” I sat up, and momentarily thought I’d blackout from the effort.

He eased me back into the sofa.

“Nailed it.” I swallowed. Talking was so much effort. Thinking was weirdly worse. “It’s a coping mechanism, I guess.”

He nodded, but when I didn’t continue, he made a winding motion with his hands.

“Every year this…fog descends. When Halloween’s over. This looming sense of…dread.”

“And it’s right when everyone else is getting excited.”

I nodded. “Exactly. Not me.” The wind howled savagely by, rattling the window and making us both jump. I turned my face away from the glass, not wanting to think about the carnage outside. “I’m sat there like a…miserly Scrooge.”

“Scrooge was never that pretty.”

I shook my head. “Don’t flirt with me.”

“Keep talking then.”

I didn’t want to. I just wanted to sleep.

My eyes drifted, and he nudged my knee with his. “Sof?”

With gargantuan effort, I rallied. “Welcome to Gloamas!” I wheezed. “Not quite Christmas. Not quite apathy. Some…twisted netherworld.”

He permitted me another tiny sip of water for my effort.

I swallowed it and continued, “You’re stuck for weeks. Longing to be…joyful and merry. But…that ineffable light is…absent.”

Matt pursed his lips. “So…it’s not gloomy, it’s gloamy. You’re in the twilight. Daylight’s gone. You know it will be back at some point, but in the interim, you’re left with a hollow echo—”

“How you…loved Christmas…as a kid,” I managed. “Desperately wish to…feel it all.”

He grinned. “But for now, the light’s faded. Until the sun rises, you’re left wisting after a feeling.”

I stared at him. “And someone to share it with.”

Matty shifted a little closer. He was still soaking wet from the rain. Must have been freezing. Yet he hadn’t complained. Hadn’t even seemed to notice. I leant into him and shivered. More at the thought of how cold he must be than anything else. But he stripped off my blankets (now soaked) and wrapped me in two new dry ones.

The phone rang, and he shot up to grab it.

“She’s okay, I think. Conscious, talking, the bleeding’s stopped. Her shoulder’s bad, but—”

A pause as whoever was on the other end of the line spoke.

“Are you sure it’s safe?” He peered out of the window. “The rain’s still coming down hard.”

Another pause.

“Okay. We’ll be here.”

He hung up. “Sounds like the storm’s passing. It’s lightening up at the house, and the rain’s almost stopped down there. They’re on their way up. By the time they get here, it should have cleared.”

“The track will be murder.” I tried to sit up.

He moved and blocked me, forcing me to stay still. “Easy.”

“Give me the phone.”

“They’ve already left, Sof.”

I struggled some more.

“Stop!”

Calm. But firm. Commanding.

I’ve never heard him speak like that before.

“Stop.”

Softer. Eyes searching mine.

My heart fluttered.

“We’d all gladly risk a bit of fucking mud to get you safe. You must know that?”

My breath caught. My chest constricted painfully. His jaw was locked. The look in his eyes was…feral.

And so fucking hot.

There’s really something wrong with me.

Satisfied I wasn’t about to bolt for the door, he sat back down. Glanced around.

“Is that why all your decorations are so…weirdly depressing?”

“They’re not.” I sniffed.

“They really are, Sof. Like…they’re full of the festive spirit but don’t quite hit the mark.”

He glanced at my forlorn little tree. Which, in fairness, was at least standing vertically now. I’d come in one day to find him scrambling around on the floor, fiddling with the screws on the base to get it standing straight.

He was right. The baubles were desolate.

I loved them.

“I like them.” Matt wrapped the blankets tighter around me. “They’re comfortingly depressing. How Christmas should be. It always just…kind of reminds you of all you’re missing in life.”

Book Tour: The Bridge by Shanna Hatfield

The Bridge
Shanna Hatfield
Publication date: October 7th 2025
Genres: Adult, Holiday, Women’s Fiction

One Bridge. Five Strangers. A Christmas Eve That Changes Everything.

On a bridge suspended above the Willamette River, five lives collide for a journey through hope and hardship in a suspenseful, heartwarming tale of courage, connection, and the magic of second chances.

Sergeant Archer Raines has worked every holiday all year for one reason: to finally spend Christmas with his wife. But when a desperate man threatens to jump from Portland’s St. Johns Bridge, Archer’s expert negotiation skills are required to defuse the situation.

Rosalee, a high-powered accountant and mom-to-be, only meant to swing by home for a forgotten phone and client file. Then her car is caught in the chaos on the bridge, she unexpectedly goes into labor, and her carefully planned world begins to unravel amidst the unfolding drama.

Exhausted nurse Nova just wants to make it home for Christmas after too many night shifts. When the pileup halts traffic and Rosalee’s baby is on the way, Nova puts her own plans on hold to help a stranger in need.

Carter, the owner of a busy tow truck business, regrets taking the call to clear the multi-car collision off the bridge. He’d intended to spend the day tackling last-minute holiday errands. Instead, he’s praying the lunatic pointing a gun at him doesn’t pull the trigger.

Fresh out of college and anxious to kick-start his career, Ian’s running late when his car won’t start the morning of his big interview. His rideshare driver turns out to be a captivating girl with a penchant for aggressive driving that narrowly saves them from being part of the wreck on the bridge, sending Ian on an unexpected path of his own.

The Bridge is the perfect uplifting holiday read and a story of how one frozen moment can thaw even the loneliest of hearts.

He’d just stepped outside when he saw a vehicle roaring up the street. The rideshare logo was clearly visible in the passenger-side corner of the windshield. He hoped the maniac driving the small SUV wouldn’t kill him in a fiery crash before they even made it out of the neighborhood.

He lifted a hand as he stepped out to the curb, and the SUV came to a precise stop beside him. All he had to do was open the door and slide into the back seat.

“You’re the dude heading to Magra? Ian Alexander?” the driver asked, giving him a glimpse over her shoulder.

Ian nodded, then cleared his throat. “Yes. I’m Ian. Do you have the address?”

“Got it right here,” she said, then blew a big pink bubble and popped her gum.

He was in the process of buckling his seat belt when she hit the gas and zipped into the street, barely slowed at the corner, and picked up speed as she headed toward the highway.

Ian prayed he’d survive the trip and wouldn’t be so rattled by the experience he’d mess up his interview. He drew in a long breath and inhaled a fragrance reminiscent of spiced cider and warm fires. He didn’t see an air freshener hanging up and wondered if it was just the driver. If so, she smelled amazing.

Head in the game.

Now was not the time to check out a girl. Besides, this one certainly wasn’t his type even if she appeared to be close to his age. From the quick glance she’d given him, he’d concluded she was into goth with her thick, black eyeliner and dark eye shadow, a nose ring, blood-red lipstick, and a dragon earring that encircled her entire ear. She had on fingerless gloves with leather cuffs and a black leather jacket sporting silver studs around the collar. He had no idea what color her hair might have been because it was all stuffed up under a slouchy black velvet hat.

He wondered what she’d look like if she washed her face and dressed in something less biker chic and more … feminine.

Ian almost face-palmed himself. Good grief! He was starting to sound like his parents. He didn’t care if the woman was dressed as one of Santa’s elves as long as she got him to his interview on time, preferably in one piece.

To distract himself from the fact that goth girl seemed to think she was training for the Indy 500 or perhaps to become a New York City cab driver, he rehearsed what he planned to say at the interview. When it felt as though the SUV went around a corner on two wheels, Ian latched onto the handle above the door and held on for dear life. What kind of crazy person was about to get him killed?

“Ever think about becoming a race car driver?” he asked as she barely slowed at a stop sign and took a right onto the highway.

She glanced back at him and smirked. “Only every other day. Unfortunately for you, today is an even day, and I’m practicing.”
