Genre: Contemporary/Sports Romance

Praise for HARDBALL:

“Dash Wallace is a dirty talking, sexy professional baseball player who falls hard for the girl next door, but beware... your heart will take a beating as you watch him struggle with sticking to all he's ever known at the risk of losing the best thing that ever happened to him. Hardball is one of those books that will suck you in and won't let you go until you devour every last, juicy bite.” — Sawyer Bennett, NY Times Bestselling Author “Fiery hot and enticingly realistic, CD Reiss's captivating writing, complex characters and explosive love scenes make Hard Ball an irresistible modern day romance.” — Katy Evans, NY Times Bestselling Author

Perfect ass. Perfect arms. Perfect swagger. They call Dash Wallace the Diamond King. He’s the hottest commodity in baseball and in the bedroom. When he runs the bases, every woman’s eyes are glued to his stunning body and a smile that puts the night lights to shame. I’m no queen. I’m a regular girl with a regular job. I just watch him on TV and from the bleachers, season after season. Girls like me grab a guy like that one in a million times. My number just came up, and he is as spectacular in bed as he is on the field. But there’s not a woman in the world who can distract Dash Wallace from the game. Not for a moment. Not even me. Until the night I do. And everything changes. ----- Hardball is a SMOKING HOT, SEXY romance with a touch of angst and a ton of heart from CD Reiss. It's a fun, witty, full-length standalone meant for the over-eighteen crowd.

Hardball was a Kinky Sexy Dirty standalone.  I would give this story a 3.5 stars and recommend to others.  This is the first book I have read by this author but look forward to reading more in the future.  This book was good just not great, I am not sure what exactly was missing for me but I didn't find myself drawn completely into the vortex of the story.  But it had great potential and was a Baseball book and those are my favorite genre so I had to give it a chance and I can't say I was disappointed.

Dash is the all mighty baseball player but has a disease of sorts that he keeps hidden in the shadows, he doesn't want the limelight or stardom he just wants to play ball.  He keeps things simple and the same routine so that things stay balanced in his life,  but when a sexy Librarian enters the picture he will get thrown completely off his game....

Vivian is a nobody Librarian who doesn't do the one-night stand kind of relationship when she is in a relationship its has to be all or nothing, so when she finds herself face to face with the sexy but broody Dash who wants things to be simple and routine she finds herself wanting to walk away...

Can these 2 make life work.. or will it implode before it even begins?

Get to one clicking and see what you think of this story!

CD Reiss is a USA Today bestseller. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets. Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels. She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping that cord of wood. If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

Aimee’s wedding is supposed to turn out perfect. Her dress, her fiancé and the location—the idyllic holiday ranch in Brazil—are perfect. But all Aimee’s plans come crashing down when the private jet that’s taking her from the U.S. to the ranch—where her fiancé awaits her—defects mid-flight and the pilot is forced to perform an emergency landing in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. With no way to reach civilisation, being rescued is Aimee and Tristan’s—the pilot—only hope. A slim one that slowly withers away, desperation taking its place. Because death wanders in the jungle under many forms: starvation, diseases. Beasts. As Aimee and Tristan fight to find ways to survive, they grow closer. Together they discover that facing old, inner agonies carved by painful pasts takes just as much courage, if not even more, than facing the rainforest. Despite her devotion to her fiancé, Aimee can’t hide her feelings for Tristan—the man for whom she’s slowly becoming everything. You can hide many things in the rainforest. But not lies. Or love. Withering Hope is the story of a man who desperately needs forgiveness and the woman who brings him hope. It is a story in which hope births wings and blooms into a love that is as beautiful and intense as it is forbidden.

I love listening to audiobook and when I saw the synopsis of Withering Hope by Layla Hagen, I had to give it a go. I mean you have two people stranded in the Amazon rain forest trying to survive and make it back to civilization. Okay, there is a lot more to it than that. Aimee is about to marry the person she thinks she loves, or at the very least her best friend since childhood. One week before the wedding, she decides to go to her fiancé, Chris’s ranch in Brazil – where the wedding will take place - a week early alone, but a storm hits and the plan goes down. Tristan, a former army soldier, is Chris’s pilot for his private plane. He tried to go around the storm, however, in the end the best he could do was try to get them down without killing he or Aimee. They make a crash landing and both survive, but the real question is will they survive the rain forest? Will they be rescued in time? On top of those worries, there is a growing attraction between the two of them. It is more than just being trapped together. They find that in each other everything they felt was missing in their lives and more. They help each other mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Word of warning, grab tissues for the end. The story is well written and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen to Aimee and Tristan; although, there were a couple of times my anxiety spiked when I was listening due to a few precarious situations they both wound up in. Coleen Marlo, Michael David Axgtell, and Christy Romano do a great job at narrating the story and bringing it to life. Although there were a couple of times a new accent was thrown in that hadn’t been there before, but overall a good narration. I highly recommend the book and the audiobook. 4 stars for the book and 3.5 for the narration.
Welcome! My name is Layla Hagen and I am a Contemporary Romance author. I fell in love with books when I was nine years old, and my love affair with stories continues even now, many years later. I write romantic stories and can’t wait to share them with the world. And I drink coffee. Lots of it 😀

Feeling a stich in my side, I slowed to a stop and unzipped my jacket. With my hands on my hips, I took several deep breaths, embracing the sharp burn in my lungs. I loved this time of year, when the snow was at its last days. I enjoyed the cold white sheets of ice, because I knew that they would be gone in no time. Just like everything else.

“Hey, girl!” An SUV full of guys pulled up beside me, the one in the passenger’s seat sticking his head out the window. “What’s your name?” he asked, looking me up and down.

Ignoring him, I turned on my heel and kept walking. But the SUV stayed at my side, slowly skimming the edge of the sidewalk. Warmth flooded my body, along with a mix of fear and unease.

“Hey!” the driver shouted, leaning over the console. “We’re talking to you! Come here!”

They must have been students, like me and Sara. The neighborhood wasn’t far from campus and we knew a handful of people at school who had rented houses here before, out of a dislike for dorms and apartments. If these guys went to UW, I hoped that today would be our first and last encounter.

“Maybe she needs to warm up,” the passenger suggested. “Here, Ice Queen! Have some coffee.” He threw a Starbucks cup out the window at me, despite the fact that the container wasn’t empty.

As I braced myself, steaming hot coffee burst through the lid and splattered all over me. I staggered back and collided with another runner, as we both fell to the ground.

“Yes!” the guys in the SUV cheered. They took off, speeding through the neighborhood, as the passenger stuck his head out the window and rejoiced in celebration.

“Jerks,” the stranger beside me muttered.

Sitting back on my elbow, I looked over at the one thing I hated the most in this world right now. The one thing that had to be here at this moment. A Guy.

“Let me help you up,” he offered, extending his hand for me to take. When we were both on our feet again, he looked at me and smiled. It was the best smile I had ever seen.

Dressed in jogging pants and a sweatshirt, he was the embodiment of everything I had been searching for and now sworn off for good. Tall. Lean. Attractive. His short, curly hair was the darkest shade of brunette, yet not quite black. His eyes were soft and light, his irises somewhere in between blue and gray. My mouth watered at the sight of his chiseled cheekbones, strong jawline, and the slight stubble on his face.

He was my dream guy, but I had given up on dreaming a long time ago. So I did what I had to do. I ran.

“Hey, wait,” he pleaded, grabbing my arm. “Are you okay? I’m sorry about those guys. Don’t worry about them. They’re just jerks.”

I nodded, then looked down at the coffee stains on my clothes. These would be fun to get out, especially since our washing machine was a gadget sent straight from hell.

“I’m fine,” I said. “Thanks.”

With my head down, I stepped back and walked away from him.

He runs a hand over the back of his neck, “Oh, and just so you know, when we train together…” He smirks, then leaning in he whispers against my ear, “I’m the one in control.”

I blink a couple times, opening my mouth to argue, then decide against it.

Pulling away he meets my eyes, “Can you handle that?” He’s still whispering.

I feel my cheeks heat. I want to say, Actually, I don’t know if I can. Instead I answer, “Yeah, I think I can handle it,” in a funny voice that I don’t recognize. The cocky son of a bitch can probably do anything he wants talking to me like that!

His mouth turns up. “Good.”
