Homecoming King, an all-new holiday romcom from New York Times bestselling author Penny Reid is now live!
Rex “TW” McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn’t bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn’t keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he’s always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings.
Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She’s dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool.
The guy who just walked into her bar.
The guy who doesn’t recognize her.
The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home.
The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.
Oh wow - where to start!
TW McMurtry and Abby McNerny have known each other since elementary school; or should I say that Abby has had a crush on him since elementary school? She never expected to have a fake marriage / relationship with him as an adult, but this is where she ends up.
This story had me wrapped around its finger the moment that I started reading it. You will have all the feels with this one. Don't hesitate to one click this today. It's worth it, I promise!
Oh Penny Reid… you make my awkward heart swoon. You write characters that are just a little goofy, a whole lot of awkward and 100% relatable.
You ever have someone you think is just too good to be true? This is where we find our main characters Rex “TW” McMurtry and Abigail “Abby” McNerny.
Abby lives a simple life, bartending and crafting on the side. She doesn’t date for good reason – she had a disastrous first marriage and feels content to never try that again. But her non plan of a contented life is thrown into upheaval by a man with BSE asking her to fake marry him. Not just any man, but Rex McMurtry – famous football player and someone who she has had a crush on for as long as she has known him (since elementary school).
This story was a slow burn leading to some serious, 4 alarm hotness. The line between what is fake and what is real becomes harder and harder to differentiate. I ran the whole gamut fo emotions – frustration, infatuation, awkwardness, sadness, belonging and so many more. I can’t tell you enough how much I enjoyed this book and the characters.
So can they make their fake marriage a real one? You will definitely have to one click to find out.
