Eric Richardson knows exactly what he wants out of life.
He wants to play bass with his friends because performing gives him a high better than any drug he’s ever used. Being on stage is where he feels most comfortable.

Defining Us: The Calvin & Eric Story by Zoey Derrick is the next book in the smoking hot 69 Bottles Series and let me tell you that Zoey Derrick DID NOT disappoint! You definitely need to read the books of this series in order to understand the relationship of Calvin and Eric (or Peacock and Mouse as they are always called), and I have been patiently waiting for their story for some time. This book is a 4 star read for me and if you enjoy a good love story that has struggle, determination, support, and family then this is definitely the book and series for you.
Calvin and Eric have been friends for as long as 69 Bottle has been a band, and over the last few years they have become closer then ever. Some might even think that something is going on between them, but despite their assurances that they are only the best of friends, there are underlying feelings that no matter how hard they try cannot be hidden. Once Eric comes out to his friends, his band mates that he is in fact gay, Calvin believes that maybe that is the push he needs to come forward himself. But the terror from his past hold him back from the one thing he truly wants with all of his heart that also makes him so sick to even think about, which is a relationship with Eric.
The struggle that Calvin goes through in this book is one that I can imagine is so real and evoked such emotion within me that at times I wanted to reach through the page and hug him, tell him that everything would be okay and that I would stand by his side as he worked through the demons that haunted him daily. And the way that his band mates, especially Eric stand by his side and help him however they can to get over the things that haunt him, shows what an amazing family they really are. This is a MUST READ!
