A spin-off from the #1 Amazon bestsellers, A Not So Meet Cute and So Not Meant To Be, USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn brings you a heart-warming, yet hilarious full-length novel on what life is like after the happily ever after.

Ryot Bisley is my husband.

Yes, the former third baseman for the Chicago Bobbies and absolute heart throb of the Windy City. That Ryot Bisley.

The first time I ran into him, he was grumpy, a horrific host, and left me on his sofa with nothing but a nylon baseball flag to use as a blanket.

The second time, he reluctantly bought me dinner, stared at my chest the entire night, and still sported that permanent frown.

The third time . . . well, that was a game changer. His smile captured me, his teasing charmed me, and his touches excited me.

So when he was called up to the majors that didn’t stop us from knocking it out of the park and all the way down the aisle.

Eleven years later…I’d love to say we’re happy as ever but the man who sent me dirty text messages every day is long gone and Mr. Frowny Face is back.

He’s so focused on trying to build a life after baseball that he doesn’t see the life we’ve already created together. . .so I make the hard decision and serve him divorce papers.

Problem is…my husband refuses to accept those papers. Instead, he has a new game plan that makes untying the knot of our marriage a little tricky. And just when I thought I wanted to be traded . . . he's slowly, tantalizingly roping me back in.

When a marriage begins to break apart, what can you do to save it?   Ryot and Myla had a very romantic beginning, and the passion they share could not be beat.  It survived through time and distance, but now that Ryot has retired from baseball, Myla is not happy and wants a divorce.    This book takes you back and forth between the present and the past of their relationship.

I normally devour Meghan Quinn books, but I took this one a little slower.  It was much different than her other work.  Yes, it was funny and witty at times, but the overwhelming sadness from the breakup of this marriage carries through.   It's darker than her other novels.  BUT that does not take away from the fact that this is a great storyline, and I am definitely glad that I read it.  After all, if I am feeling what the characters are feeling, it is a great book.    I recommend reading it for yourself and feeling all these feels.

I do have to preface this review by stating that I am a huge Meghan Quinn fan. I haven't one book by this author that I haven't enjoyed. And while I did enjoy this one, it wasn't one of my favorites.

Yes, the witty banter was there. The comedic one-liners from the characters were perfectly timed to induce laughter. And, in the beginning, Ryot and Myla were quite the duo. From their first meeting to each interaction after, this author brought one heck of an opening and created the perfect setup for their life together. But, eleven years later and their relationship fell flat.

Myla threw one into left field by informing Ryot she wanted a divorce. For him, this news came from nowhere. To say she took him by surprise is an understatement. She ticked him off and broke his heart. Yes, he could have given her more attention after their move, but, in my opinion, he was giving her his all trying to provide for her and just doing what he knew to do. As a reader, Myla came across as a tad self-centered and more focused on her friend and what she "lost" when they moved after his retirement than she was on trying to work on her relationship with Ryot. Yes, he should have listened when she tried sharing how she felt, but she was just too quick to call it quits on an eleven year marriage (having just a few months of "troubled times" for my liking.

The author did wrap up this story to this reader's satisfaction. We do get our HEA'HFN ending and the road/journey you take to get there is an entertaining one. I just didn't connect with the lead female.

All-in-all this was a great story, a wonderful, easy read, and fits the style you know is characteristic of a Meghan Quinn romance/rom-com.

Myla and Ryot have been together for 12 years. An abrupt ending to his major league baseball career has Ryot trying to prove himself, moving him and his wife to California. In his need to validate himself, he stops listening to Myla and their relationship slowly falls apart without his knowledge.

I found this story hard to relate to as well as the female lead. While I get that her (Myla’s) past trauma dictates her decisions and actions, I felt she was a bit selfish in not fully explaining her reasoning/justification. I did enjoy the back and forth from past to present and showing how their relationship grew and became what it was before they moved to California. I also enjoyed all the little easter eggs of various characters from other books. So what happens? Can they make it work or do they get divorced? You’ll have to on-click to find out.
