Why am I holding a box of stolen memorabilia in my arms? It's called . . . revenge. After failing my last semester of grad school, I decided to come back to my hometown and wallow in my boyfriend’s sympathetic arms. Instead, he proceeded to dump me . . . for being boring!
Now, I'm not typically a spiteful person, but there's only so much I can take. Hence why I’m holding the box of his most cherished possessions…stolen possessions no less!
The plan? To give the box back to its rightful owner and rat my ex out. How’s that for being boring?
But plans never go the way you want them, because instead of dropping off the box with a note, I’m pinned with the crime by the true owner of the box himself.
Hayes Farrow is grumpy, arrogant, and stupidly hot in a way that makes it hard to even look him in the eye. Not to mention he’s my brother’s nemesis so I fully intended to stay far far away from the gorgeous jerk.
But to add insult to the injury that has become my life as of late, Hayes gives me two options: turn me into the police and press full charges . . . or work it off. How could I possibly work for someone I can't stand? Easy, I don't look good in orange.
But working for Hayes isn't as horrible as I thought it would be. The way I hate him begins to turn into something else - something I never thought I'd feel. But the way my brother reacts when he finds out I’m working for his enemy? He’d prefer me in prison orange.
Vanessa Edwin and Teddy Hamilton narrate in duet and are a dream team in THE WAY I HATE HIM! They are sublime in these roles and bring Hattie and Hayes to life! Pop in your earbuds and give it a listen today!
Hattie is struggling, she failed her most recent semester at college and came home, looking for a break. She never got to properly mourn the loss of her sister. She heads to her boyfriends to hide out for a little bit, but he immediately breaks up with her. Hattie isn’t upset about it, more kind of mad. To get back at him, she plans to return all the things he stole from his employer – famous singer Hayes Farrow, hoping to get him fired. The Hayes Farrow that is a sworn enemy to her family.
Hayes is in a rut, but when Hattie walks onto his porch, returning stolen items that were his…. He black mails her. He has video that she was there when her boyfriend stole his Grammy. To keep quiet, he enlists her to be his assistant and to sort through his fan mail. But now they are both sneaking around, because if word got out, her family would go nuclear. Not just on her, but also on Hayes.
Hattie is a relatable female MC. She needs time to discover herself, what she wants, what she needs, and she needs time to process her sister’s death, and the feeling of being left out of everything lately. And Hayes self-discovery is a fabulous journey as well. He needs to learn that he can count on people and trust them. That he is loveable.
The more time they spend together, the more Hattie doesn’t understand why her family is in a feud with him, and the more she comes to love him. So what happens? Will they get discovered together and all hell break loose? Will they be able to weather the storm? You’ll have to one-click to find out.
Oh wow! This book has all the feels.
Hattie has failed out of her Masters degree classes and heads home to see her boyfriend. He immediately breaks up with her, so to get even, she takes the things he stole from his boss - Hayes, a famous singer - to return them. Hayes is also her family's enemy because of something that happened years before with her brother. He gives Hattie a job that she has to keep secret from her family.
Without writing a novel of a review, know that Hattie is struggling with the death of one of her sisters, her life goals, and family issues, and that Hattie and Hayes are attracted to each other.
This book had such an emotional feel to it. It was hot and steamy, yes, but also had so much below the surface. I recommend that you read this for yourself!
Man! This one had my emotions suffering from whiplash!
I could be laughing one minute, screaming at a character another, and then crying within seconds.
Meghan managed to write a story filled with heartbreak, betrayal, loss, forgiveness, and coming-to-age with perfect care.
Hattie, while she got on my nerves at times, suffered a huge loss when her eldest sister passed away, and her loses (or feelings of loss) do not end there. She goes through emotional blow after blow, feeling as though her family hates her, she is letting them down, she is a disappointment, and then, the worst of all, she is betraying them by turning to (albeit reluctantly, and out of need and desperation) the one person she shouldn't. Hattie's journey is one of forgiveness, patience, and love. She grew on me and at the big reveal, when she realizes she wasn't as forgotten as she thought, my tears just couldn't stop.
Then there is Hayes. He is swoon-worthy and hides behind a mask of debauchery. He is a sweetheart behind the exterior devil-may-care attitude, and, it is shown, he is probably one of the most loyal people in their lives.
They go through their ups and downs, but in the end, they find a way to make it.
THIS story is proof that being a Meghan Quinn fan is worth all the emotions.
