Blog Tour, Review and Giveaway: When I Was Yours by Samantha Towle

“Marry me.”

“What?” I stared back at him, unblinking.

He moved closer, taking my face in his hands. “I love you, Evie. I look into the future, and the only thing I see clearly is you. Marry me.”

What’s an eighteen-year-old girl who was madly in love with her nineteen-year-old boyfriend say?

Of course, I said yes.

Twenty-four hours later, I married Adam Gunner at a Vegas chapel to the sounds of “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi. Not the best omen. I get that now.

Then, exactly one week later, I left him. I walked out, leaving behind my wedding ring, annulment papers, and my heart, and he never knew why.

I haven’t seen him since. Not in ten long years.

Now, he’s here, standing before me. Looking at me with nothing but hurt and hatred in his eyes, he wants answers.

Answers I can’t give.

Adam POV

Making my way through the hotel, I exchange pleasantries with the staff on duty. When I reach the coffee shop, I push open the door and step straight into the past.

Evie.

She’s standing behind the counter. Her face is turned slightly to the right, her attention on the TV mounted on the wall, and her hair is pulled back into a ponytail.

But it’s her.

I feel like a speeding train has hit me, and I’m pretty sure my heart has stopped beating.

It’s really her.

She’s here.

“Evie?” I breathe out her name, like I’m taking my first real breath in a very long time.

Her body stiffens at the sound of my voice. And I watch as her face turns my way. Those big whiskey-colored eyes that I fell in love with all those years ago meet mine, and my world stands still.

Evie POV

My eyes rake over him as I remember the Adam I knew ten years ago and compare him to the Adam I see before me. The long hair is gone, replaced with cropped locks. The unshaven scruff on his face is still very much there though. At least some things haven’t changed.

“You cut your hair.”

“It has been ten years.”

“I know. I just...I remember a time when you said you’d never cut your hair.” A small smile touches my lips at the memory.

“Yeah, and I remember when you promised to love me till death do us part. Shit changes.”

My smile drops from my face. My cheeks sting like he’s just slapped me.

I deserved that. Doesn’t stop it from hurting like a bitch though.

Heartbreaking. Emotional. Sorrow. Love. Lonelines. These are just some of the immense feelings that I had while reading Samantha Towle's When I Was Yours. This story is different from anything that I have read, putting a twist on the rich boy, poor girl young love that has become so common in the book world. Samantha Towle has a way, no matter her subject matter of pulling the reader into the story, making you feel like you are walking right beside her characters, feeling what they are feeling, experiences their heartaches and triumphs right alongside them. This book was a 4 star read for me and I highly recommend it to others.

Adam Gunner is your typical Hollywood rich kid, with the world handed to him on a silver platter, not wanting to follow the path that is so carefully laid out for him but to instead forge his own. Evie Taylor is anything but your typical 17 year old girl. Working hard to help support her family, while going to school, she doesn't have time to date and she definitely doesn't have time to fall in love; until she meets Adam. Adam and Evie begin a romance that seems typical for those of their age, spending their summer falling in love, getting lost in each other, while still trying to maintain the lives that they had before they met. When Evie turns 18, she agrees to marry what she believes is the love of her life, a man she wants forever with; that is until a week later when she crushes his heart by walking away and never looking back.

When Adam and Evie come face to face after ten long years, the sparks are still evident but so is the hurt, anger and betrayal that they feel; each in a completely different way. Adam wants answers to why Evie left him all those years ago so maybe he can move on, answers that Evie can't and won't give him. But looking at him brings back the memories of a summer that meant everything to her.

Samantha Towle has the reader going back and forth between the past and the present with this couple, learning about their lives together back then and apart right now. To see how it affected each of them in different but sometimes similar ways has your heart weeping for both of them. Can Evie and Adam move on from the past? You will have to read this amazing story to find out.

I was intrigued by When I was Yours by Samantha Towle when I read the synopsis and it did not disappoint, but for some reason when I was reading this book, Summer Nights from Grease kept popping into my head, but Adam and Evie aren't exactly Danny and Sandy.

Two teens meet and on the beach and fall in love, they have a whirlwind romance that is steamy, sweet, seductive, and all together perfect; and then it all ends abruptly leaving Adam alone, confused, searching for answers, and angry. Ten years after everything ended, Evie is back and Adam's world is turned upside down again. Over the last decade he hasn't been able to find her and now she suddenly pops back into his life with no explanation about what happened. Can he get over the hurt and pain of her leaving? Can he forgive her and accept the her now? Can he still love her? Evie is the one that left and she refuses to tell Adam why, but her feelings for him never changed, never dissipated. She loves him just as much today as she did ten years ago. Nothing has changed, but at the same time, everything changed. They can't stay away from each other. They crave each other's bodies, but if they don't watch out the heat will burn them.

Will Adam ever get his answers? Will Evie ever be able to share her deepest, darkest secret with the only man she has ever loved? The characters feel the highs of first loves, the bliss of a summer love, and the sting of heartbreak. I give the book 3.5 stars and say if you love reading about an all consuming love, then read this story!
