*** AUTHOR’S NOTE and CONTENT WRNING***
This story contains triggers for rape victims and soldiers. I did my best to remain respectful to the healing process for both. Hillary’s feelings are hers alone and ONLY represent how she feels about her attack. Dylan’s emotions about his time at war are his ALONE. You are all strong and beautiful, and you will soar again! ***A broken soldier …
Dylan Meyer lived his life fast and hard, doing anything to keep his emotions masked. In Crystal Gulf, Texas, women, drugs, and alcohol are in abundance. After all, it’s a college town. But eventually, his lifestyle caught up to him. The birth of his daughter, Aubrey, forced him to grow up and take responsibility for his actions. He let his vices go, cleaned up his act, and allowed himself to fall for Harley Evans.
But Dylan is a liar.
He lied to himself. To Harley. To his best friend, Bach. And then he lied himself right into a U.S. Army uniform. When he went to war, he left Harley with his best friend in hopes that he’d look out for her while he was deployed. Not in his darkest nightmares did he think Bach and Harley would fall in love.
A fallen angel …
Hillary Hayes is an eighteen-year-old sophomore in college who understands the importance of rules. She’s followed them her entire life. She gets perfect grades, avoids dating, and won’t stray from the future her mother mapped out. On the outside, she’s perfect. Inside, she’s drowning.
That carefully crafted future disappears when she downs a beer at a party. What’s left of that night is the wreckage of the girl she used to be.
Until she meets Dylan. Her brother’s best friend.
When Dylan returns from war, he can’t move past the betrayal. His daughter’s growing up without him. Flashbacks and PTSD from his time in Afghanistan consume him. He loses himself in a dark depression. There is no light in his darkness …until he meets Hillary. His best friend’s little sister is the only good thing among all the bad.
He’s her safe place.
She’s his light.
Can two damaged souls ever find peace, or is the damage too much to overcome?

Damage Me was the second book in The Crystal Gulf Series, although this is a second book it can be read as a standalone but I would highly recommend reading Destroy Me first because it will set the picture and pretense for this book. I was really skeptical about reading this story because honestly I truly didn't like Dylan in Destroy Me, but she completely redeemed him in my eyes and made me see him in a different light. I would give this book a 4 stars and highly recommend to others.Dylan was the bad guy the man who left for war and lied to so many.. now he is back and he thought being at war was difficult... he finds himself picking up the pieces of his life... PTSD, injury and fallen relationships with not only the love of his life but his long time best friend.. what will get him through the darkness the becomes his whole life??
Hillary lives a life on the straight and narrow follows all the rules.... but what happens when she finds herself stepping out of her comfort zone and a huge tragedy strikes??? Who will help her out of her darkness??
Dylan and Hillary meet because of the tragedy and both have demons to fight but can they be the ones to steam roll through and come out in the end together?
Get to one clicking to find out what happens! Thanks for another great story and an even better extension to the main story, I have to say I enjoyed the first book but this book by far blew Destroy me out of the water in my opinion. Its great to see an author grow with each story she presents and Shana definitely did that here! Can't wait to see what she has in store for us next! I love reading author from the beginning and watching their story telling evolve. And that is how I feel about Shana. I loved the first one and was curious to see how Dylan's story would play out.
Dylan was a liar. He went and enlisted and left. He left with many secrets that cost him when he came back. He was injured in a roadside blast resulting in major injuries as well as PTSD. He comes back more broken then when he left. Feeling all hope is lost until he meets Hillary.
Hillary is Bach's half sister. She has lived in the straight and narrow path, feeling obligated to follow other's dreams. Until one night it all comes crashing down. Hillary is left as broken as Dylan.
She turns to him to feel safe because he can identify the brokenness within. Can they help each other? Can Dylan be the man he needs to be?
One click. Trust me you won't be disappointed.
Damage Me by Shana Vanterpool is book two of the Crystal Gulf series and I had a hard time putting this one down. After book one, I didn’t have much hope for Dylan, but he completely redeemed himself in this installment.
Dylan Meyers came back from war wounded only to find his best friend and girlfriend had fallen in love with each other. He is broken and angry.
Hillary Hayes follows the rules, but that doesn’t mean she completely agrees with all of her mother’s rules. She wants more and different. One night she goes to a party and everything changes. She is a wreck.
Together they will help pull each other out of the darkness, but will remain of each of them at the end? Will they be able to forget and move on with each other? Or will the damage each other further?
This story got to me more than book one, and I really enjoyed this more than the first one. The characters are broken and hurting, and the author does a good job of portraying PTSD experienced by vets. I highly recommend this book, but have your tissues ready. 4.5 stars. Damage Me is the story of Dylan's redemption. Finding himself and becoming whole again after a tour with the Army leaves him destroyed. Coming home, his life is a wreck but then he meets Hillary. Can they heal each other?
Watching Dylan grow from a person he thought was so worthless was heartbreaking at times. But seeing how Hillary broke down his walls and worked her way into his life was promising.
I'd give this a solid 4 stars and highly recommend Damage Me.
