I love listening to audiobook and when I saw the synopsis of Withering Hope by Layla Hagen, I had to give it a go. I mean you have two people stranded in the Amazon rain forest trying to survive and make it back to civilization. Okay, there is a lot more to it than that. Aimee is about to marry the person she thinks she loves, or at the very least her best friend since childhood. One week before the wedding, she decides to go to her fiancé, Chris’s ranch in Brazil – where the wedding will take place - a week early alone, but a storm hits and the plan goes down. Tristan, a former army soldier, is Chris’s pilot for his private plane. He tried to go around the storm, however, in the end the best he could do was try to get them down without killing he or Aimee. They make a crash landing and both survive, but the real question is will they survive the rain forest? Will they be rescued in time? On top of those worries, there is a growing attraction between the two of them. It is more than just being trapped together. They find that in each other everything they felt was missing in their lives and more. They help each other mentally, emotionally, and physically.
Word of warning, grab tissues for the end. The story is well written and I couldn’t wait to find out what would happen to Aimee and Tristan; although, there were a couple of times my anxiety spiked when I was listening due to a few precarious situations they both wound up in. Coleen Marlo, Michael David Axgtell, and Christy Romano do a great job at narrating the story and bringing it to life. Although there were a couple of times a new accent was thrown in that hadn’t been there before, but overall a good narration. I highly recommend the book and the audiobook. 4 stars for the book and 3.5 for the narration.
Welcome! My name is Layla Hagen and I am a Contemporary Romance author.
I fell in love with books when I was nine years old, and my love affair with stories continues
even now, many years later. I write romantic stories and can’t wait to share them with the
world. And I drink coffee. Lots of it 😀
