Bethany Lopez continues the individual stories of a group of friends since high-school that were more than friends, they were each other's family in 42 Hours. This is the third book in the series and it focuses on Scott's life, and him coming to terms with how he thought he should live it which differed from what would make him happy. I give this book 3.5 stars and would recommend this series to anyone who loves a heartwarming love story with a little bit of angst and many laughs. I absolutely loved the fact that Bethany gave the reader snippets into the lives of Cal & Shelly and TJ & Sasha so that we were able to see what they have been up to since their love stories concluded.
42 Hours starts off with an intervention for Scott by his friends, urging him not to marry Victoria, who is a clone of his cold-hearted, only cares about appearances mother. Although Scott has felt that the marriage would be a mistake, since he didn't love her like he should, he stayed engaged to her because he was too much of a coward to hurt Victoria's feelings by calling it off for the second time. Once he hears the words of his friends, telling him that it is a mistake to marry her, but if he chooses to go through with it, they will support him no matter what because they love him, he knows what he has to do and does it immediately.
The story continues with Scott realizing the intense feelings that he has for Gaby, his friend since high-school, are more than simple friendship. Although they lost their virginity to each other on prom night, they never dated, each deciding that they didn't want to jepordize their friendship. Once Scott accepts the feelings that he has, he orchestrates a weekend away at a Lake House with the gang, were he plans to put the moves on Gaby while they are their having fun. He gives himself 42 Hours to convince her that his feelings are real and that they belong together.
Gaby has always had a soft spot for Scott, and realizes in many ways she has never given up hope that they would one day be together, that is until he put a ring on Victoria's finger and started planning a wedding. She begins dating Brock, a friend outside their circle who is close to TJ and Cal, but only casually, because she is unable to give her heart to the kindhearted, thoughtful man who is obviously smitten with her, because she gave it away all those years ago to Scott. Once at the lake house, she notices that Scott has changed in how he is acting toward her, being more outwardly flirty, always touching and innocently kissing her. When she calls him out on it, he tells her the truth, that he is trying to show her how good they can be together, how strong his feelings are for her. That is until Brock walks in on them kissing.
Will Gaby and Scott get together in the end? What happens with Cal & Shelly and TJ and Sasha? You are going to have to pick up this series if you really want to find out! And I suggest that you do!
