“I have you in the palm of my hands,” he whispered softly and leaned toward me.
“What do you mean by that?” I whispered back at him, my stomach jumping as his fingers brushed my wet hair away from my face.
“Nothing.” He shook his head. “I’m just saying, I could do what I wanted to you right now, but all I’m doing is saving you. I hope you’ll trust me after this.”
“Untie me and I’ll trust you.” I nodded, unblinking.
“Can I get a kiss as well?” His eyes sparkled as his lips came dangerously close to mine.
“What?” I closed my eyes and waited to feel his lips on mine.
“Open your eyes, Bianca.” He whispered against my lips. I could feel his breath gliding over my skin as I opened my eyes slowly. I swallowed hard as I stared up at him.
This is the first book from JS Cooper that I have read. The blurb for the book was very intriguing but when it came down to it, the execution was just not what I expected. I wanted to slap or strangle the female lead Bianca. She seemed to be the most naïve New Yorker ever! She knew not to trust everyone but then she goes and trusts everyone! At times I did think the story was pulling me in and I wanted to be invested in the story but for me overall, it was just ok.
After Biana’s father passes away, she learns some family secrets. Her Mother had died years prior in a car accident that may have not been an accident and her father’s inventions where never fully compensated for. He leaves documents for Bianca that shows she may be entitled to millions in a corporation that he help get started. When she starts investing on her own, she starts to receive her mysterious letters from an anonymous source.
“Beauty and Charm. One survives. One is destroyed. What are you odds.”
Yah talk about vague! Shortly after receiving this letter, she is drugged and kidnapped. She awakens on a deserted island with the hunky and handsome Jakob. He doesn’t know how he got there or why? A short time later, they discover a third person Steve is also on the island with them. He was on his honeymoon and woke up on along the beach as well. Bianca’s instincts tell her to trust Jakob… even though she knows nothing about him. Slowly he reveals that he knows some of the players involved in the business dealings Bianca was investigating. This is where I wanted to slap Bianca! It was frustrating because I hate when the female plays the damsel in distress card and I got that a lot from her. The entire time they are on the island, Steve is telling her not to trust Jakob that he’s not who he says he is. But she doesn’t listen… what does she do? She falls in love with him.
“My breathing stopped for a second as I realized that the truth might be starting me in the face. What if I wasn’t going to get off the island? What if Jakob had no plans of helping me figure out the truth? What if Jakob was here to kill me?”
More and more secrets are exposed the more that is revealed that neither Jakob nor Steve where telling the entire truth. Can Bianca decipher the lies and separate them from what she feels and knows? There is a killer cliffhanger on this one that will leave you awaiting the next installment.
If you like a romantic suspense, you will enjoy this, just be prepared to be frustrated at times and want to slap some people around! 3.5 stars overall.
Illusion was a mind blowing and suspenseful story. I seriously didn't know who to trust in this story my brain kept flipping back and forth, and then I had an Ah Ha moment and all the pieces fell into place. J.S. Cooper had me completely captivated the whole time I read this book. Although I am not the biggest fan of a cliff hanger.. she hit it on the nose with the end of this book, it was probably one of the best cliffys I have read yet! I would give this book a 4 star, and god help me because I am anxiously awaiting the next book Disillusioned coming in March. This is the first book in the Swept Away Series and as far as I can tell there will be 3 books in this series with Resolution being the final installment.
Bianca leads a very lonely life writing for a movie blog, but in her free-time she has been trying to uncover the truth of her mother's death. When she reads her father's letter that he left her after his death she starts to wonder if maybe her mother was murdered and not killed in a car accident. She tries to set up meetings with the owner of the company her father worked for but she would always get blown off. When Bianca starts getting threatening letters and fearing she was being followed all of her nightmares come true when she is kidnapped in the middle of a bar. When she wakes up in a trunk of a car she is frightened but realizes she isn't alone, she is with a man who she met in a coffee shop weeks before Jakob...when they end up on a deserted island neither wants to trust each other but they have to divulge some information so they can hatch an escape plan. When they start to trust each other passion will ignite and they can't hold back the feelings they share for one another. But when tragedy strikes and everything comes to a head will there feelings for each other get them through it or was everything Bianca felt for Jakob just an Illusion?
If you want a book that will mess with your mind, melt your panties, and give the roller coast ride of your life .. you should pick this book up ASAP! Can't wait for the next one!!!
