Dark Fae by Lillian Carter transports you into another world that borders the human, and for some, only a locked door separates the two. If you have a special key, you can open it.

Tessa has always been alone, and then all of the sudden, she has an aunt who is leaving her property. Someone she never knew existed. Staying at the cabin her aunt left her, she finds a locked door which uses an odd skeleton key in her possession. Opening it, she finds herself finds herself in the world of the fae, and she feels a connection with one in particular.

Nyx hasn’t seen a human in decades, but all of the sudden one arrives in his world. He should kill her or send her away, but he can’t. He’s attracted to her and can’t let her go.

The premise of this story is fantastic, however, the delivery fell a little short for me. There were many times the story was rushed and I felt like there were holes in everything. Some stuff didn’t really make sense. Such as towards the end when assumptions are made about one of the fae and it makes little to no sense on why she made the assumption in the first place. I liked the story, but I wish there was more to it and the holes had been filled in. I’m not sure if it was the fact it was a novella and the author didn’t have the word count available to her – maybe the story needs a full length novel – or if there were things in the story that weren’t necessary for the story and that space could have been used for some of the plot holes. It just felt slightly lacking. 3.5 stars.

The premise of this story was fantastic! It had the all the right elements. Unfortunately it felt rushed for me and skipped forward to major plot points with little buildup. That being said, this is a novella so that may be the reason for the brevity.

Tessa was abandoned growing up and as an adult barely scrapping by. That changes when a stranger shows up unannounced that she had an aunt who was searching for her. This aunt left her house and posessions and a weird glass skeleton key. While searching for some sence of belonging to her aunt she opens the door and enters another world.

Nyx, is the leader and protector of the fae. He runs into Tessa as she first enters their world. There is an instant attraction.

But there happen to be a few pitfalls that tries to keep them separated.

Does Tessa belong in the land of fae? Will Nyx's duty and honor come before Tessa? One click.

Lillian Cartier started writing when a persistent vampire entered her mind and refused to leave. Sharing the crazy idea with her closest friends and, with the encouragement from them, a story not only started to form but she has gone into collaboration with a friend turned author, Michelle Dare.

A wife, mom, and lover of books, that will be soon going on a vacation on a tropical island where she can finally get some much needed rest and relaxation with her family and friends.
