Review & Giveaway: Pocketful of Sand by M Leighton

“She’s beauty for my ashes. And I’m hope for her heartache.”—Cole Danzer

I don’t know what makes a great love story. Is it that instant attraction when boy meets girl? The passionate kisses and the fairy-tale ending? Or is it a lifetime of tragedy, paid in advance, for a few stolen moments of pure bliss? The pain and the suffering that, in the end, you can say are worth it for having found the missing piece of your soul?

The answer is: I don’t know. I don’t know what makes a great love story. I only know what makes my love story. I only know that finding Cole when I did, when Emmy and I were running from a nightmare, was the only thing that saved me. That saved us. He was more broken than I was, but somehow we took each other’s shattered pieces and made a whole. If that is what makes a great love story, if that is what makes an epic romance, then mine…ours is the greatest of them all.

Contains material that some may find disturbing. Not intended for readers under the age of 18.

I have been a huge fan of M Leighton for many years!  To me, she just has a magically way of spinning and turning a story that totally pulls me into her world and in Pocketful of Sand this was no exception! I literally devoured this book in just a couple of hours and the ending… wow… it just left me speechless!!  Have you ever read a book and thought, hmmm… I wish the author would have done it this way, or I wish there was a different ending, well in this book you get to choose your ending!!! How genius is that!  I personally think its bloody brilliant and I cannot believe this is the first book I have seen with this kind of ending!  Do you want just a standalone?  It can be just that!  Or do you want a little bit more from these characters and don’t want it to end? Well guess what… you get that as well!!!!  Like I said, the execution is BRILLANT!!!!!!  I read both because I want to see where both go and they are so different.  You cannot go wrong with this one and I would highly recommend it!

When Eden and her daughter Emmy moved to a small seaside town in Maine she was looking to get away from the nightmare that she had lived for years.  What was once a burden to just Eden was not falling on her daughter and there was no way Eden would allow that.  While taking a stroll on the beach, they come across a man building a beautiful sandcastle.  There is something about him that captivates Eden.  Her daughter who does not take to stranger also sees that there is something special about him.     Eden later seems him working on the house across the street and is drawn to him.  There is just something about him that she is captivated by.

“I’m not this girl.  I’m not the kind of woman who melts over a man.  Any man.  But this one does something to me.  I get the feeling that, if the circumstances were right, I’d melt for him. Or with him.”- Eden

Cole is living with his own demons and self-imposed prison.  He has had to deal with great loss and for that, he accepts that he can never be happy again.  That he needs to go through life in a lonely existence.  But when he catches new women watching him from her house, he is intrigued.   Nevermind her daughter has a remarkable resemblance to someone from his past.  When the little girl approached him on the beach, he didn’t know what to think. But the more he tries to stay away, the more he wants to know them.

They both have lost so much and they have both experienced more in just a couple of years than anyone should have to endear in a lifetime.  When they get together, they both feel something they both had lost.  They have a magnetic field that draws them together. What they share together is something magical that neither expected.

“We’ve both lost so much, paid so dearly for what we have left, for what were allowed to keep.  Maybe, just maybe it’s enough to make us whole. Our pieces. Together.” – Eden

When both of their past collide in the present, it will be too much for them to take.  Secrets are exposed and shatter everything they have shared.  Now at this point I started messaging Ms Leighton the infamous “NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!”   I thought things would be rosey and peachy and since they have both been through so much this was their happily ever after!  How should Ms Leighton do this to me! URGHHHHH!!!!!!!   But then she does something phenomenal… she lets us the reader choose what ending we want!  Well I read both and it’s crazy!  I wish more authors would do this!  I personally cannot wait for more and where the option for more takes us!  But I’ll leave you with this….  sigh….

“You made me want to laugh and love again.  You made me feel when I didn’t think I could feel anything anymore.  I just wish I could’ve been whole when we met.  I wish I could’ve we met.  I wish I could’ve said the right things and done the right things.  I wish I could be there type of man you deserve.  I wish I could be the kind of man you could love.” – Cole

That just breaks my heart!!!!!!   I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!
M. Leighton did it again with her newest Contemporary Romance. She knows how to pull the reader in fast. Her stories usually have passion, lots of heart and at times a bit of heartache. Pocket Full of Sand is such is a tragic and poignant story. It captivated me within the first few pages and held my interest til the end. I fell hard for Cole, Eden and Emmy’s story that centered on their complicated lives that were full of challenge, love and sadness.

Maybe fate works in mysterious ways...who knows. But after reading this tale of two people who suffered hardship and could relate to each other, I can’t help but wonder if fate played a role in bonding and healing them.

Emmy is Eden’s daughter, she suffers from anxiety and seems unique. She seems like a special child that brightens her Mom’s life. I couldn’t help but admire what Eden has endured to protect her daughter. Life hasn’t been exactly fair and she has dealt with it the best she can.Eden is focused on self preservation and a fresh start. She seems to be interested in Cole's story.  She senses his sadness and feels drawn to him. Watching their relationship flourish was beautiful romantic and inspiring.

“I’d give up everything I am for her.” - Eden

Cole is quiet and private. He's masculine and gorgeous. He keeps himself productive and seems intense. I found myself wanting to unravel his past and be a part of his future. I couldn’t help but feel bad for this tragic hero.

“I never wanted to feel hope or love or desire again. I don’t deserve to feel. At least not anything good. I only deserve pain and heartache and sadness. And guilt. Suffocating guilt.” -Cole

I am sure you will find this story about a women escaping her past and colliding with the town ecluse in a quaint Maine town pleasurable. The ending was unique I went for Door #2 and I’m a bit stupefied …. I give Pocketful of Sand 4 ½ Stars…..

The first two words that come to my mind are: Options and Choices.
Eden and Emmy step into a small town in Maine. Immediately you know there is a past they are hiding/running from. Before getting keys to their new cottage they take a stroll on the beach and happen upon a man building a sand castle. He is deeply immersed and pays them no attention. Feeling as though she intruded on a private moment Eden and Emmy back away.

They start to settle into a routine. Everyday Eden is drawn to her window watching the man, from the beach, work on a cottage across the street.

Cole feels her and can't understand how he already feels like Eden and Emmy have taken stock in his heart. He too is recovering from a painful past and feels as though he doesn't deserve happiness or have any room in his heart.

Slowly pasts get revealed and together they try to make their broken pieces fit together. The struggle between Eden and Cole is honest and beautiful. Add Emmy into the mix and your heart completely melts.

I refuse to tell you how this tale ends, it's completely in your hands.

Pocketful Of Sand was heart warming romance that has many depths of emotions.  I wasn't prepared to feel so many emotions while reading this story but who wouldn't be torn to pieces with the tragedy this story will tell.  I have to say I have always loved M. Leighton ever since The Bad Boys Series with the hot Cash and Nash but this story was so powerful and it really did break my heart and then slowly put the pieces back together.  Divas you are going to be blown away by this story and this will add another great story to add to your M. Leighton's favorites.  There is quite the twist in the end and it will be unlike anything you would have thought of in a book.. so you have to ask yourself the question is this book a cliffy? Or does it have and HEA???  Oh and wait until you find out the meaning behind the title of this book.. it will either crush you or bring you great joy.

Cole was the star football player, he had everything the picture perfect story and a wonderful wife standing by his side.  When he finds out he is going to have a child he vows to be the best father when he is in her presence but when he is away at football games out of state it is his party till you drop time... When one night changes his life forever he will find that nothing will get him out of his darkness and his life will slowly fade into blackness.

Eden's life has been anything but simple, her aunt and uncle have made her the woman she is today and it is not what she planned for her life in fact it is the worst nightmare any child/adult should have to face but when a miracle happens she finds something to live for again but just when she was getting comfortable again uglyness will show again and scar not only her more but her daughter.  So she runs and finds herself in a small town not knowing anybody and dealing with the pain of her past and now dealing with her daughter the only way she knows how.

When Cole and Eden meet it will be a striking connection one that you can only hope you will feel once in your lifetime.. but can either move forward when they harbor so many demons from the past?  With twists and turns and tragedy striking multiple more times will these 2 finally find there HEA or is there more of a story to tell?

What if I told you that you could possibly choose if this story ends?  And if you choose to would you be able to handle what possible more tragedy there is to come?  Or will you choose the HEA and get some closure with Cole and Eden???  Well I will tell you its a hard decision but all I can say is a choose both and can't wait for more from this story!

Thanks for a great story.. I would rate this book a huge 5 stars!  Go get it now Divas and bring some tissues cause like I said it will break you down... but it will be well worth it in the end.
