Title: Never Too Late
Series: Willow Creek #2
Author: Micalea Smeltzer
Release Date: April 21, 2015
I’d never met anyone quite like Mathias Wade.
He was brooding and arrogant, but I loved him anyway.
Together we were wild and uncontained—a hurricane raging.
Then I had to leave, and words were exchanged that could never be undone.
But now I was back, and Mathias better watch out, because this bitch wasn’t finished with him.
Game. Set. Match.
All is fair in love and war, right?
Mathias Wade, the lead
singer of Willow Creek, is used to getting everything he wants. Except for Remy
Parker—the one that got away. Childhood friends that grew into more, Remy was
the one constant in his life until she moved away. In anger, he lashed out and
broke the only girl he ever loved. With temptation around every corner Mathias
drowns his sorrow in women and alcohol. When the band returns to their hometown
for the holidays the last thing Mathias expects is to run into Remy—but she’s back,
and she’s not done with him.

I jumped up on the counter and he
moved to stand in front of me, bracing his hands beside my hips. I kicked my
legs against the cabinets like a little kid as he stared down at me intensely.
I wasn’t sure what he was looking for in my eyes, but he must have found it,
because he cupped my cheek and leaned in.
“This feels like when we were
younger,” he whispered. “Like no time at all has passed.” His words echoed my
previous thoughts.
I closed my eyes, feeling his
breath fan across my lips.
God, I’d missed him.
It didn’t seem possible to miss
someone I’d grown to hate, but I did.
I was pretty sure that when
someone like Mathias came into your life they were impossible to forget.
He was like the sun, burning so
bright that even once he was gone I was still blinded.
“Did you ever miss me?” I asked.
“Even once?” I held my breath, waiting for him to explode—because that was
Mathias. He could be nice one minute and an asshole the next. I wouldn’t put it
past him to kick me out for my question.
Instead he surprised me by leaning in impossibly
closer and nuzzling my neck. “Always.”
Being a huge Micalea Smetlzer fan since I read the Trace & Olivia Series; I was thrilled to be able to read the next work from her. Never Too Late is the second book in the Willow Creek Series which tells the story of the brooding, angry, far from friendly member of the hottest band Willow Creek, Mathias. The reader was introduced to Mathias in Last To Know and he was as intriguing as a character can be. Mathias was anti-love at every turn and often angry at everything, even his brother Maddox. While reading Last To Know I kept wondering what happened to Mathias to make him hate love so much, to be so angry and I was curious about his story, a childhood that was similar to Maddox but yet two people that were so completely different. This book was a 4 star read for me and I highly recommend that everyone one-click this book so that they can experience everything that lead singer of Willow Creak Mathias has to give, you won't be disappointed.
Mathias Wade, lead singer of Willow Creak, wasn't your typical bad boy rocker. Often found brooding and angry at the world, his brother Maddox often commented that he didn't like anyone, especially after Remy left. Remy and Mathias were friends since they were young whose relationship turned into something romantic as they grew into young adults. Being the only constant in his life, a person that grounded him, Remy was everything to Mathias, until the unthinkable happened, she was moving away. Hurt that Remy was becoming just another person in his life to abandon him like all the rest, he lashed out at her, causing their parting to be anything but sweet. The pain of Remy leaving is something that never left either of them, both living with the pain in an almost completely different way.
Remy returns to her hometown to help take care of her sick grandmother, and the last person that she wants to run into is Mathias Wade, especially after she discovers that he is home from touring on a break with the band. When the invetiable happens and they run into each other one day, the feelings that they had all those years ago explode to the surface causing both of them to step back and think about what the other really meant to them. When Mathias begins to pursue Remy once again in a sexual way, she devises a plan to get him to fall in love with her a second time, so that she can destroy him as he destroyed her when she left all those years ago. But her plans don't seem to work out in the way that she wants, since she is completely unable to keep her heart out of this dangerous game she is trying to play. It is the contradiction between the persona that Mathias portrays to the outside world against the persona that he has when he is alone with Remy that makes her question her plan altogether and wonder if she can give her heart once again to the man that shattered it to pieces. Will the secret that she has carried all this time destroy them before they even get started again? Only time will tell.
The turbulence that ensues between these two extremely passionate people, who were once each other's everything can either lead to tremendous heartbreak or true love. As I turned each page I had hopes that it would turn out that Mathias and Remy would find love once again, but there were several times that I wasn't so sure. You will have to read to find out how their story ends and I hope you do because it is a moving story. I loved how Micalea also gave the reader a glimpse of some of the characters from the Trace & Olivia Series seeing where they are now at a glance Now I am hoping that we will get a story about the other two band members Hayes and Ezra.
