“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”

Nila Weaver has grown from na├»ve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.

She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.

But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.

Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.

The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.

Just thinking of Jethro sent a spasm of desire through my core.
Dammit, what’s happening to me?
A daydream of Jethro slamming to his knees before me and wrenching my legs wide stole my mind. It was so vivid, so real—a trickle of need ran down my inner thigh. I gasped as I imagined his tongue lapping at my clit, his long fingers disappearing inside me—the same finger that I’d tattooed with my name.
Would I come harder knowing he touched me with a finger branded by me? Or would I hold on as tight as I could and make him work for it?
Oh, God.
I needed to get rid of this satanic desire. I needed to be free.
My eyes opened, latching onto the detachable showerhead.
I could do it myself…
My heartbeat whizzed with need. I couldn’t fight the churning demand any longer.
Reaching upward, I unhooked the showerhead and turned the water temperature down so as not to burn myself.
Feeling awkward and ridiculous and a hundred times guilty for what I was about to do, I braced my back on the tiled wall and spread my legs a little.
My teeth clamped on my bottom lip as the water pressure tickled my clit.
Oh. My. God.
My eyes rolled back as I grew bolder and pressed the stream of heavenly water harder against my pussy.
Water cascaded down my legs while my torso shivered from sudden cold. My nipples stiffened as I wickedly angled the jet down and down until water shot inside me. Every jet and bubble aroused sensitive flesh, sending my muscles clenching in joy.
I moaned.
My legs trembled as my neck flopped forward and I gave myself over to the exquisite pleasure conjured by an innocuous showerhead.
Starbursts flashed behind my eyelids; Jethro loomed into my mind. I pictured him shrugging out of his black shirt, prowling toward me while unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers. I moaned again as my daydream shed his clothing and stood proud and naked before me. He grabbed his cock, pumping himself hard and firm, while his eyes feasted on what I was doing. He didn’t say a word, only watched, then crooked his finger and beckoned me closer.
My heartbeat exceeded recommended limits as I forced myself higher and higher, locking my knees against buckling as an orgasm brewed into being. I rocked the showerhead, biting my lip as the pressure spurted over my clit and then inside me. The rhythm I set was exactly like fucking and I daren’t overthink how I looked or how depraved I felt getting off this way.
My daydream forced its way past my misgivings. My forehead furrowed as I trembled, both welcoming and fighting an orgasm.
Daydream Jethro crept closer, working his cock, a dangerous glint in his eyes. The moment I was within grabbing distance, he captured my waist. “I need to be inside you, Nila.” I put words into Jethro’s mouth, but it was his voice I heard in my heart.
I moaned again, angling the showerhead harder against my clit.
“How do you want it?” my fantasy whispered in my ear as he spun me around and pressed me hard against the wall.
I swallowed hard, answering in my mind. “Fast and…”
“Filthy?” Daydream Jethro’s nose nuzzled the back of my ear, sending shockwaves down my spine. “I can fuck you filthy.”
I couldn’t speak. But I didn’t have to. My fantasy knew exactly how I needed it. Jethro bit the back of my shoulder, spreading my legs wider with his.
“Fuck me, Jethro Hawk,” I whispered.
“Oh, I will. Believe me, I will.” Without further warning, he dug his fingers into my hips and slammed inside me.
My fingers went numb as I slid the showerhead from clit to entrance. I cried out as water shot inside at the same time as Jethro thrust into me from behind, sliding deep and fast, stretching me deliciously painfully.
My heart exploded with bliss. An orgasm squeezed every atom, getting ready to hurl me into the stratosphere.
Jethro thrust again and I rode my new friend the showerhead.
“Oh, God. Yes,” I hissed, rocking harder. “Yes, yes…”
A masculine cough sounded. “You continue to surprise me, Ms. Weaver; at least this time, I rather enjoy it.”
Everything crashed into awareness. My daydream shattered, fracturing by my feet like broken glass. I squealed and dropped the showerhead. It turned into a water snake, spewing water left and right, wriggling like some terrible demon.
Jethro snickered. “You’re using up the entire Hall’s supply of hot water. Are you planning on saving some for the rest of the inhabitants of my home?”

Indebted; Second Debt by Pepper Winters is the third book in the Indebted Series.  This news addition to into the capture of Nila Weaver by the Jethro and the Hawks is the best one in the series thus far; as the reader is introduced to the inner workings of Jethro's mind and what really guides him in following this century old tradition held up by his family.  Allowing the reader a glimpse into Jethro's mental states allows for a better understanding of the up and down, hot and cold attitude that Jethro has thus far with Nila and allows a better understanding to the story as a whole.  I will admit that I am glad I have continued to give this series an open minded chance.  This reader did not care for the first book in the series at all, and reviewed as such.  Continuing on to see where Pepper Winters would take the story, I felt that it was slightly redeemed in the second book, Indebted; First Debt and now with this third installment I feel that the story has definately taken a turn for the better and I would rate it 3.5 stars.  I am curious to see where the story will move to next after experiencing a cliff hanger at the end of this book that I did not expect.

Jethro Hawk is almost the complete opposite of every other member of the Hawk family.  Knowing that he has to abide by this tradition of punishing the Weaver woman for debts that are centuries old, he does so only by filling his heart with an ice to mask the disgust that he has for a tradition he doesn't seem to believe in.  Often thinking of the changes that he will make to the family once he has turned 30 and take over control as the first born son, the reader has a glimpse into the soft heart that at first you believe Jethro doesn't even possess.

This book picks up right after the last book leaves off, with Jethro worrying over the affect that paying the first debt had on his beloved Nila.  Yearning to protect her in any way he possibly can from the wrath of the other members of his family that aren't as kind-hearted as he is; he yearns for her to obey his commands in front of others, knowing that if she doesn't both of their lives will be at risk.

Nila soul is broken but not bruised after her first debt repayment, sticking to her plan to make Jethro fall in love with her hoping that she can convince him to let her go free.  After a discovery at the end of the second book remains fresh in her mind she is not re-thinking her entire plan wondering if the feelings she seems to evoke in Jethro are true or just a manipulative game he is playing as a member of this crazy and dangerous family.  It is on the heels of a second discovery that she can no longer stand to be in Jethro's presence; plan or not and she decides that she is not safe no matter what the Hawks lead her to believe and she decides to keep to herself, pay the debts and die as so many Weaver women have before her.

Just when the reader thinks that Jethro and Nila have turned a corner toward something positive between them all hell breaks loose, leaving the reader with a cliff hanger that you wouldn't expect; especially with the debt repayment tradition having gone on for centuries without outside interference.  This reader is curious to see where Pepper Winters takes the story from here and I believe that you will feel the same if you give this dark tale a chance.

Pepper Winters is a rare breed. She's been blessed with a beautiful gift. She's a master storyteller

and a poet. Her words are eloquent and inspiring. They make you hurt, feel and yearn for more.

They take you to dark places and lift you to the moon and beyond. They also excite and break

you! I like her twisty dark tales and will be forever thankful for her words. She has brewed a

torturous tale that is breaking me one book at a time. I am loving every second of it too…….

I am utterly invested in this embroiled saga between the Weavers and the Hawks. Jethro and Nila

<3….. The lines have been established, crossed and are blurred...and this is what makes for a

fantastical story. A story that is full of emotional turmoil, complexity and suspense. A 5 STAR

read for sure! If I could rate it higher I most definitely would. Her books are more like a vivid

experience. In actuality, this series is more like a romantic mystery and we are given clues to

decipher the plot, relationships and storyline that is powerful and life altering. The angst is

immeasurable and addictive. This book had my heart beating wildly. It also caused me to hold

my breath! Not many authors take me to that suspended place of euphoria.

"The moment I set eyes upon him, I was done for." –Nila

We learn more about Jethro in Second Debt. You will feel for him and his f….. up life with Cut

Hawk. He may share their blood but in this case the apple is far removed from the tree. Thank

Goodness..... Right! You will understand him more and get a better perspective of his physical,

emotional and mental state. We feel his vulnerability, pain and love in Second Debt. Nila has

thawed his icy heart. He's a chameleon in this series. He needs to keep up this facade with the

Hawks while opening his heart to the only person that has the ability to heal, sustain and please

him. Yet potentially shatter him.

"There was just too much to say. Too many hurts to uncover and I didn't have the strength."

Nila remains strong in her will power- her faith in his feelings for her and his truth. I commend

her perseverance and strength. What doesn’t destroy you makes you stronger. This applies to

her! She is a warrior.

Secondary Characters

-We got a glimpse of Jasmine. Yet, she's still a mystery to me. I need more of her background in

future books. I am uber curious…. I think she has been Jet’s sole support system for years. Glad

he has her.

-The insight to Cut and his unconventional, sadistic ways angered me. I despise him. I see

nothing good in this monster. He needs to go.. Lol

- Bonnie Hawk- she holds the power and I'm sure we aren't done learning more about her. She

holds the key to all the madness.

-The Brothers- time will tell with them. I like one and not the other at all. They are warped by

Dad and the debt and payment history. I’m sure we will see more of them in future books.

You will get swept away by this complex story where Nila is forced to pay for her ancestors

crimes again. She's broken and only one person can heal her heart. He's a bit broken too. Can

their connection survive their brutal ways? Can he continue to protect her in any way?

Nila and Jethro's passion is erotic and undeniable. It's beautiful and painful too. I'm rooting for

them one page at a time and one book at a time.

Pepper gives us more and has us greedy for every morsal by the end of Second Debt. I can't wait

for Third Debt (Indebted, #4). I am desperate to see the direction she takes. The fallout. The

intrigue. I want it all! I want more of this screwed up debt that entwines two families in a sadistic

relationship that destroys. I want more of the palpitating romance that is painful and beautiful.

Nila and Jethro’s synergy is all consuming- Give it Pepper…. I am READY<3

Pepper Winters you are dark and wicked and I am fine with that!!!!!

If you haven’t discovered the brilliance and wonder of Pepper Winters you really are missing

out. She is an author that pens magical stories that have ingenious symbolism, passion, spice and

depraved plots. Her characters take root in your soul and leave a lasting impression.  She’s

highly inventive as well as unpredictable. Take time to delve into one or all of her books as soon

as you can. You will become a Fan Girl like me. Perhaps a Pepper Stalker too!!!!

Pepper Winters wears many roles. Some of them include writer, reader, sometimes wife. She loves dark, taboo stories that twist with your head. The more tortured the hero, the better, and she constantly thinks up ways to break and fix her characters. Oh, and sex... her books have sex.
She loves to travel and has an amazing, fabulous hubby who puts up with her love affair with her book boyfriends.
