I’ll
be honest with you—I'm no hero. Sure, the media tries to brand every Navy SEAL as some kind
of Batman dressed in cammies. There’s even a line in one of our cadences: “Superman is the
man of steel, he ain’t no match for Navy SEAL.” You've seen the movies—we’re indestructible,
invincible. But that night, the one you read about in the papers ... all I really wanted to do was get
laid.
One harmless fuck with a CuraƧao whore, no strings attached. I picked her out of a
lineup—wild, dark hair, long legs and a crooked smile. After she sucked me off, I relaxed back
onto the creaky, cum-stained cot, thankful for the blissful moments she gave me when I actually
forgot for a second the faces of my buddies who died because I made the wrong call, the tears of
the children I couldn't save, and the eyes of the enemies I slaughtered during their last seconds of
life.
But before I left, her hazel eyes peered into my soul. She whispered in a distinct
Californian accent, “My name is Annie Hamilton. I'm an American citizen. I was kidnapped from
a cruise ship five years ago. You're my last hope. Please save me.”
One desperate plea.
This wasn’t a Hollywood blockbuster or a New York Times best-selling thriller. I knew that this
time there was no room for excuses, no margin for errors. I had one chance to put the cape on and
be her hero.
I’d
fulfill my duty to her, keep my promise. But after that, she was on her own. There
was no other way. She had a family and a boyfriend waiting for her anyway. I
could never fit into her life and she could never be a part of mine. She’d have
to forget she ever met me, just like I hoped she would forget all the torture
she endured. And I could go back to living my life the way I liked to.
Alone.
For anyone
contemplating reading Invincible By Alana Albertson, I would say, run
(or more accurately type like your life depends on it) and grab this book
because it is a must read! I give this book 5 stars (I wish that I
could afford it a few more) and I am already anxiously awaiting the next book
in the series! For those who enjoy a good love story that has a little
drama, angst, heartbreak, love, mystery, and HOT Navy SEALS this is the
book for you!!
"I never made any commitments-except to my country and to my men"
Patrick seem to live
and die by this rule, being a Navy SEAL was his entire life, who he was and he
committed to nothing besides fulfilling the duties that encompassed, except for
the day that he docked in Curacao and walked into a brothel and in turn walked
into Annie Hamilton's Life.
"My name is Annie Hamilton. I'm an American citizen. I was kidnapped from a cruise ship five years ago. You're my last hope. Please save me."
Annie Hamilton, or
Star as she is referred to in the beginning chapters of the book, was living us
life that many of us see on a TV news channel but pray to God that we never
experience ourselves. A young college student on a cruise with her
boyfriend, she is kidnapped and kept as a sex slave for five years. Her
pimps keep her high on heroin and beat her when she is disobedient. She
is addicted to chasing the dragon, but there is a small part of herself that
still clings to the hope, however fleeting that one day someone will recognize
her, that someone, anyone will rescue her and return her home to her
family. And Patrick Walsh is that man.
"My loyalty to Country and Team is beyond reproach. I humbly serve as a guardian to my fellow Americans always ready to defend those who are unable to defend themselves."
Pat and his two
buddies from SEAL Team Seven go rogue to save Annie Hamilton from a fate worse
then death. With their expert training, they are the only ones who will
be able to do it and Annie becomes the next mission.
"You aren't invisible, you're invincible. I know you're alive. I know your name. You've survived this long and I will get you out of here"
Patrick keeps his word,
and with the help of his two teammates, he rescue's Annie and returns her home
to a world that has long since accepted that she was dead; or have they? The
reader is taken through a series of complicated emotions felt by both Patrick
and Annie; happiness to be on American soil again and to be drug free; grateful
to the man who risked his life and career to save her from the hell she was
living everyday, and love when reunited with her family. Patrick's
emotion although different are just as page turning; feeling differently about
deployment and settling down, believing there is more to Annie's story then
there appears to be and a need to make sure she is sage always. You need
to read it to see for yourself what a fantastic series this will be, especially
with the dramatic ending of this first book!
Kuddos to Alana
Albertson!!
I wasn't really sure what to
expect when I started reading this book, but it was surprisingly very good! I
found myself reading it every chance that I got. This book is very dark and
violent at times. It involves human trafficking, rape/forced sex and drug use. The story is told by the POVs of
Annie and Patrick.
Patrick is a Navy SEAL that
has trust issues with women because his ex cheated on him and broke his heart
while he was on deployment. While docked for a few days on a Caribbean island,
he decides to visit a brothel instead of trying to play the game of charming a
girl at a bar. After the prostitute, whom he had treated like trash, finished
her 'job', she whispered something in his ear that would forever change his
life.
“My name is Annie Hamilton. I'm an American citizen. I was kidnapped from a cruise ship five years ago. You're my last hope. Please save me.” - Annie
Annie risked her life by
telling her 'john' her real name after she recognized him as an American
soldier, but he was her last hope, she didn't know how much longer she could
take the drugs and the shame of being forced into prostitution. She has been
captive for five years and she is losing hope that she will ever be free again.
Kyle’s girl walked out of the bathroom, her mascara smudged. But at that moment, I didn’t see this nameless girl, I saw Annie. Annie’s eyes. In one careless, drunken night, Annie’s world had changed forever. Spring break, five years ago, a night like this. The girl who stood before me, she didn’t know that Kyle was a good guy. That the three of us weren’t going to gang rape her. But this girl took a chance, a chance on him, a chance with us. In a foreign country, with different laws. These girls had false senses of security, that they were invincible. But all it took was one wrong drink, one wrong man, and they could end up dead, or in a living hell. Just like Annie. - Patrick
Patrick risks his career and
life to save Annie, but you have to wonder how a person can move forward after
something so traumatic.
Invincible
is the first book of The Trident Code series and the end of the book has the
first few chapters of the next book, Invaluable
and will feature Kyle, one of Patrick's best friends and fellow SEAL. I
will definitely be watching for it so that I can see what happens next!
