Aimee’s wedding is supposed to turn out perfect. Her dress, her fiancé and the location—the idyllic holiday ranch in Brazil—are perfect.
But all Aimee’s plans come crashing down when the private jet that’s taking her from the U.S. to the ranch—where her fiancé awaits her—defects mid-flight and the pilot is forced to perform an emergency landing in the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
With no way to reach civilisation, being rescued is Aimee and Tristan’s—the pilot—only hope. A slim one that slowly withers away, desperation taking its place. Because death wanders in the jungle under many forms: starvation, diseases. Beasts.

As Aimee and Tristan fight to find ways to survive, they grow closer. Together they discover that facing old, inner agonies carved by painful pasts takes just as much courage, if not even more, than facing the rainforest.
Despite her devotion to her fiancé, Aimee can’t hide her feelings for Tristan—the man for whom she’s slowly becoming everything. You can hide many things in the rainforest. But not lies. Or love.
Withering Hope is the story of a man who desperately needs forgiveness and the woman who brings him hope. It is a story in which hope births wings and blooms into a love that is as beautiful and intense as it is forbidden.

Withering Hope by Layla Hagen is a story like none other that I have ever encountered when reading and the emotion that it invoked from me brought tears to my eyes on more then one occasion.  Layla Hagen has a talent for drawing the reader into the situation and allowing you to envision yourself there, feeling the same emotions and frusterations that the characters are; even though it is a backdrop that few have ever experienced in their lives.  This book was a 4 star read for me and I would recommend it to everyone, but I warn you to make sure you have a tissue handy as I am sue you will get teary eyed a time or two just as I did.

Aimee was excited about her wedding that was fast approaching and she yearned for everything to be as perfect as she envisioned it while she was planning the biggest event of her life.  A perfect wedding that Aimee never got to have, because when travelling on her fiancé's private jet to Brazil where the wedding was to take place; the plane is forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of the rainforest without contact with the outside world.  Wondering what will happen and if she will ever see civilization again, Aimee is forced to rely on Tristan, who is the pilot who she is familiar with but not remotely close to.  Aimee and Tristan have to lean on each other in order to survive the jungle that surrounds them and continue to hope that one day they will be rescued.

Tristan relies on his military training I order to guide them through unchartered rainforest where only the wildest of animals reside.  With the plane as their biggest means of shelter and without many supplies as the plane wasn't fully stocked when the trip began; Tristan and Aimee are forced to use trial and error when searching for plants and fruits that grow wildly to satisfy their hunger.  Never giving up hope that her fiancé will search to the ends of the earth for her, Aimee insists on starting a smoke fire everyday, hoping that a passing plane will see the smoke and investigate its source.

As the days turn into weeks and the weeks turn into months, Aimee and Tristan begin to lose the hope that they once had for being rescued and start to make plans to try and reach some type of civilization.  With only each other as company; they rely on each other and the more that happens the stronger their feelings begin to fester and grow; growing from friendship to something so much more.  While trying to keep away the jaguars and stay out of the paths of poisonous snakes; Aimee's time appears to have run out just when help is about to arrive.  Will she make it once they are rescued?  Will she return to the arms of her fiancé and the wedding she had planned before all of this happened?  Or does she stay with Tristan, the man who she truly loves with all of her heart?  You will have to read to find out!
