Beautifully Forgotten by L.A. Fiore is the second book in the Beautifully Damaged series. A tale that is so different from Beautifull Damaged, this book is filled with love lost and found, mystery, and even murder. This book was a 3.5 star read for me and I was so excited to see how Trace and Ember's story continued, as they played intregal roles in Lucien and Darcy's story. This series is a must read for all!
Lucien and Darcy met fourteen years ago at St Agnes orphanage where they became best friends and eventually fell in love. Through circumstance beyond their control, they were separated when Lucien came of age and never saw each other again, but both thought of the other often. It wasn't until Darcy applied for a job at Lucien's club that they came face to face again, and fourteen years of hurt, anger and love rose to the surface. Darcy harbored guilt over walking away from Lucien at the suggestion of a complete stranger, thinking she was doing what was best for him and Lucien had anger that she left him, the only person he would ever love in his life. Seeing each other on a daily basis at the office, brought all of these feelings bubbling to the surface until neither one can continue to surpress the love they still have for the other and they attempt a relationship as adults.
Through a series of odd coincidences that have no explanation that are revealed and events that take place in the present, both Lucien and Darcy begin to realize that there was a force bigger than either of them could imagine, trying to keep them apart. Eith the help of Ember, her Uncle and Trace, they begin to investigate and start to unravel the details of the events that tore them apart all those years ago. Truths that were believed were revealed as lies, leading to one of the biggest regrets of Darcy's life not being the regret that she had held onto all of these years. The twists and turns that this story takes and the family of characters that are involved are nothing that the reader could have predicted or expected, making the story all the more enticing!
The ending was everything I could have ever wanted for this couple and more, the happily ever after that they both desperately wanted finally happened and there couldn't have been two more deserving people. It was also fantastic to see that the love that Trace and Ember had only grew after they were married and to see them start a family was the perfect continuation of this series!
Beautifully Forgotten was the second book in the Beautifully Damaged series. The first book was beautifully damaged and it was a solid 4-5 star read. I would give this book a 3.5-4 stars. I was so happy to see we got an even better ending for Trace and Ember because I truly loved there story. But I was glad to see that Lucien got his story as well because in the first book he is introduced and plays a small role but I always wondered what his back story was and now we have it! This is told is so many POV's that at times I did get a little confused that is why I couldn't give it a full 4 star. But in all it is a great series one that everyone should read. This isn't a standalone you do need to read the first book so that you understand more about Trace and Ember.
Lucien and Darcy met when they were teenagers at an orphanage that Lucien had been at for many years Darcy not as long. They felt and instant connection and they were planning on running away together once Lucien turned 18. Of course nothing ever goes as planned and Lucien leaves on his on wondering why Darcy left him by there special tree with no explanation. Fourteen years later he will finally get his answer when Darcy applies to be his assistant. Not a day went by the Darcy forgot about Lucien and she was finally at place where she could face him and she needed a job so she applied for his assistant position but when she went in for the interview she realized that maybe she can't face him yet and storms out. Lucien from that point made it his mission to find her and give her the job because he believes she forgot about him all these years and wants his answers and revenge. But what happens when he realizes everything that he believed was out of Darcy's control and people he never thought would interfere in his life were the ones that caused his heartache not Darcy. Will Darcy and Lucien finally get there HEA or is there just too much damage already done? When secrets from the past creep there way in they will both realize they need eachother to piece together there broken lives and hopefully make eachother whole again.
Even though this story was Lucien's him and Trace are best friends so you get to see more of Ember's and Trace's happily ending as well, and few other characters that I have come to love. I really hope there are more stories to come from this series because some of the other characters I would love to know what comes of there lives as well.
I am fan of L.A. Fiore and will continue with her on her journey as an author. Get these 2 books right away you won't be disappointed!
Lucien watched as Darcy struggled to get the printer working. Even from his distance he could hear the cursing, which made him smile. It had been a week since their relationship had taken a very pleasant turn. She was still just as feisty as he remembered and it wasn’t hard for him to recall why he had fallen for her in the first place. Their sparring was verbal foreplay and he fucking craved it. His eyes moved over her. Her body was nothing like the one he had known, with curves that his hands itched to touch. Her hair was up, though he preferred it down, and tendrils were falling out of the twist. He remembered vividly the sight of it spread out over his pillow.
He had to admit that she was still just as interesting to him as she had been at fourteen. Despite everything, she was still his Darcy—sweet, witty, and guileless, except at the moment. She looked about ready to torch the printer, so he moved to help her. As he approached, she was actually staring into the paper tray, yelling at the creatures that lived inside it.
He chuckled, which must have taken her by surprise, because she leaped backward and landed on his foot.
“Fuck!” he cursed.
“Sorry.”
He looked down at her strappy sandals with heels high enough to stake a vampire and had a vision of those legs draped over his shoulders. Instantly, he was hard.
“I was going to offer to help you. The printer can be temperamental, but now I’m bleeding out from a stab wound.”
She didn’t miss a beat. “It probably didn’t even break the skin. What is it you guys say? Rub some dirt into it.”
He eyed her shoes. “Those things should be listed as lethal weapons.”
“Hardly. There are far cheaper ways to kill someone.” She bent to stare into the printer again and Lucien took the opportunity to check out the curve of her ass in the little black skirt she wore.
“Stop checking out my ass and help me.”
Not at all repentant for getting caught staring, he replied easily, “It’s a paper jam.”
He thought he was being helpful and when she straightened slowly, he entertained the notion that she was struggling with the need to throw herself into his arms in gratitude.
One look at her face, though, and he knew he wasn’t going to be copping a feel.
“Your powers of deduction are astounding. Seriously, you should give a seminar on mastering the obvious.”
He tried not to laugh, but he lost that battle. And she responded by flaying a layer of skin off him with her sharp tongue.
“I know it’s a paper jam, Sherlock, I just can’t find it.”
“It’s usually in the back,” Lucien said as he reached for the back of the printer, his arm brushing up against her on purpose. Darcy’s inhaled breath in response had his balls tightening. He dislodged the paper and pulled it free.
He turned to her with a smug smile, which she returned with uncanny accuracy before she said, “Thanks. I almost lost my cool.”
“Almost?”
A slight smile touched her lips. “I should go restart my print job.”
“Probably, unless you can get the little men in the printer to do it.”
Brownies.”
“What?”
She laughed. “Not the baked goods, the little mischievous mystical creatures.”
“They live in my printer?”
“Maybe.” She started away, but stopped and turned to him.“Thanks.”
“Have dinner with me tonight.”
She eyed him through her lashes before she said, “You’re on.”
And then she turned and disappeared into her office.
