Blog Tour, Review, & Giveaway: Hate: A Love Story by Laurel Ulen Curtis

Hate: A Love Story
by Laurel Ulen Curtis

Genre: Adult Contemporary Romance
Series: Standalone
Release Date: October 12, 2014

 Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
Life can be messy,
And love can be too.

Most people say that it’s not important where you’re going, but instead, how you get there.

Unfortunately for me, the journey to love was absolutely agonizing. Love and Hate wrestled with my life day after day, year after year, and the only way to stop it was to let one of them win.

Which one?

I fought to love harder. But I loathe my love story.

This is a book that sucks you into the relationship between the hero and heroine. They endure many obstacles along their journey. They have a beautiful bond. However, some bonds simply can’t survive the unpreventable and unpredictable course of life.
This is a character driven story. Laurel Ulen Curtis created rich characters with a lot of depth that carried the drama of the storyline. And there was plenty of unforeseen drama.  It was painful and raw and it created a fall out.
Whitney is an introspective girl that is loyal and fierce. She seems tough on the outside, but deep down she is a softie. She is very close with her comical Gram and her two special friends Blane and Franny.  Her love for her friends ran deep. We see Whitney navigate her way through life, with ups and downs and plenty of self doubt due to youthful decision making skills.  She ends up alone and suffers. She was the glue that held the friendships together…. Sometimes when glue dries out…you are left with nothing…..
Blane was it for Whitney.  She just didn’t know it until it was too late.
“I was also dealing with an ugly, soul-eating part of myself that had never before reared its imposing head. Jealousy.” –Whit
“Blane Hunt lived hard and loved harder Years I’d spent living without seeing it. Without letting it in and accepting it. Without wrapping it up in my arms and loving it back.”-Whit
Can they overcome the pitfalls of life? Will her fierce love for the person that mattered the most see what was always there?
I liked the banter between Whit and Blane. Also Gram. She was a hoot.  You will enjoy it too…
Get swept away in this tale of love. Love lost and love found. It is a beautiful story. It had me feeling the undeniable bond between two people that were destined to find happiness, acceptance and peace!
Hate a Love Story had me laughing out loud and crying on the inside. I give this book 4 INTWINED STARS.

The cover to this book is what convinced me to read it. Unfortunately, the story fell short for me.

I would of LOVED dual points of views. Being inside of Franny's head would of completely gutted me, but it would of made me feel. Feeling a story is the absolute best thing you can give a reader. I didn't feel much of anything reading this story because I felt like I was given pieces to the puzzle without being able to finish it. Yes, the second half of the story completed the puzzle but I think the beginning of the story should of definitely been drawn out and had a lot more added to it because that's what the book is based off of. I needed more character development and time to bond with them, be them and feel them. I stumbled quite a few times putting myself in their place and feel what they were going through.

"She needed more time and now she can't go back. You know her and you know her heart. When regret sets in, it'll break her. Promise me you'll be there for her. Promise me you'll take care of her when she won't let me." -Blane

"Blane Hunt lived life hard and loved harder. Years I'd spent living it without
seeing it. Without letting it in and accepting it. Without wrapping it up in my arms and loving it back." -Whitney

Grams was a great addition to the story and was probably my favorite. She has spunk and says it how it is and that's my kind of character!

"Keep pushing forward, be the girl I know you are and do your best to be there for the people who need it. You can't go back. You can't undo anything that's been done. You played your part, but I'm guessing you did it from the warmest part of your heart." -Grams

"Don't ever struggle so hard trying to cone up with something to say that you don't say anything. That's the real crime because you're never ever guaranteed another chance. As long as you say something, they'll know exactly how you feel." -Grams

I would give Hate: A Love Story 3.5 stars.

Laurel Ulen Curtis is a 27 year old mother of one. She lives with her husband and son (and cat!) in New Jersey, but grew up all over the United States. She graduated from Rutgers University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, and puts that to almost no use other than forecasting for her friends and writing a storm chasing heroine!
